Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The system worked. Young people get these things all the time, but we'll make you an honorary 50+.

My doc was pretty clear that Covid is presenting as both a respiratory and cardiovascular disease, and he's definitely seen an increase in the incidence of blood clots for otherwise healthy people that have had the virus. Interesting.

Abnormal clotting is a pathological hallmark of this disease and responsible for some of its most devastating consequences. If it's going to happen, it's much better to happen in a vein!

Ugh.

Well, at least this means that you can go back to the other thread and tell that dude to STFU.

Sorry to hear, Dan - yeah, take care of yourself. Some of the dusty old farts around here should prove that you've got plenty of time left to ride bikes fast, so don't rush it.

I had a good, but somewhat chilly ride. Not a whole lot of snow encroaching on the roads, so I was able to take out the road bike, but with the winter apparel. The gloves that I picked up at Sierra the other day, some Dakine Titans, worked a treat, even without the included liners. They are bulky, though, and contribute to some futziness when shifting.

I stopped off an LBS during the ride, too, to take a look at some studded tires - will prolly pick up a set in the coming days in anticipation of winter. The shop has a buy-in frequent shopper program, so I get 20% off an item each month. I asked if they'll apply the 20% to a pair of tires - no dice. Since the end of the month is coming up, I guess I'll make two trips - one within the next couple of days (I haven't used my Oct discount yet) and again once we tick in to Nov.

Maybe I suck at patching tubes, but I've given up on trying and now just toss punctured tubes. 9 times out of 10 the patch would either fail or slow leak. Guess I need one of those metal roller things.

My recent experience too. 20 yrs ago, no such problems. And the vulcanizing fluid got you off better.

The main issue is let the fluid “glue” dry. Really dry.

I want to try the patches you light up. Anyone ever try??

Is that what you're supposed to use? I just put it under a weight to dry.

We can only hope. Hell, one of the silver linings when I'm calorie counting is being a cheap drunk when I finally indulge in that beer o' the day.

Get Covid! No need to calorie count! You lose your appetite and smell, so there's no real desire to consume anything. I dropped from nearly 190 to 175 in the course of 2 weeks. Silver lining indeed.
