Stem and seatpost not matching a NO NO??

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Seat post and stem should color match. Stem and bar color and brand should match and in the case of 3T should be of the same class (LTD, Team, Pro). People should only be able to notice when the bike is not moving.

In the world of snobby cyclists that care to much about their bikes, is it considered a No No to not match front and back?

At the end of the day I know it doesn't REALLY matter, but lets face it, most of us like to invest into our bikes which isn't cheap. I want a cool bike, who doesn't!?
Choosing a Thomson Masterpiece means you are a discriminating consumer, willing to go against conformists and able to make up your own mind. Just be prepared to defend your choice at the coffee shop.

That's what that sleazy cheat said. F**k him, and his worthless opinion.

I'm far more inclined to agree with Robert Penn: it's all about the bike.

Right.

I was just being "arch" , true, I dont know you.

But really its YOUR bike ride what YOU like what works best for YOU. There is no right or wrong.
I am riding a Thompson stem (black) and Thompson seat post (silver) since i found it used for a good price & it was lighter than the Campy thing it replaced. Thompson stuff looks great imo.

I have come to conclude that some people really care about this sort of thing and some dont. It is appearant that it's important for me to keep things the same so I will do so. If one choses not to, there is nothing wrong with that either. Its not so much that I want to pull up somewhere and have someone say...nice everything matches! because lets face it, 98% of the people that look at our bikes are not going to inspect everything. Its self satisfaction I guess to know that there was a detailed plan that went into my bike and that it is pleasing to the eye for me to know that it is set up with great detail. Like many have said in this thread, to me it is all about the bike.

I got my new Giant fitted on Friday. The stock sport stem was too short (I am afflicted with a long torso). The dude fitting the bike reached into a box of extra stems and grabbed me a Cannondale C3. He said, "instant upgrade for you" and threw it on without asking if I cared that it wasn't a Giant stem (I didn't, fwiw).

The story seemed appropriate for this thread. Apparently my LBS folks aren't hung-up on the mismatch either....

I still don't understand why you think it is more important to match your stem/seat post/bars when you have a mish mash of components.

Most people I know check out the components 1st on a bike and go from there.....you will lose people on the first thing they check out.

Also, you want to spend almost $500 on this stuff but you wouldn't pay $50 to put your Ultegra crank on the bike instead of gossamer? that makes no sense.

I don't like the looks of the ultegra 6700 and was planning on an SLK crankset from day 1 of the CDale. I don't have a complete
Mismatch of components. I have a 105 Fd and everything else is ultegra. (And crankset I guess)

I don't think it matters. Heck, think about it, a lot of the new frame sets come with their own seat post making it impossible (in some cases) to match it to the stem. The Pinarello I'm getting comes with a Pinarello (MOST) seat post and I assure you I am not putting a MOST stem on my bike.
