New, to me, training method.
At 29 months post op it appears all the major gain I'm going to get has been got. But I still have weakness that interferes. So I'm experimenting with hatha yoga. I've done two classes now and seem to benefit. The instructor has made it clear each person only competes with themselves. Also, pain is bad. She says we should expect to be uncomfortable. But never persist if there is pain. So I think this may help for strength and breathing.
Anyone else try yoga? What type? Benefit you?

I just started bikram. Only done it twice now. It's hard. The one-leg poses seem tailor made for increasing usable strength on the bike.

As long as it doesn't take time away from conventional training as in cycling, weights, calisthenics, and aerobic cross training. A cycling buddy started a yoga program, got negative results. So try it if you want, but watch your results, i.e. VAM.

I've been doing some lite yoga for core strengthening. Looks easy. It isn't if you do it right.

Vertical Ascent in Meters per hour. The best index of cycling ability/conditioning. It appears as a data field for most Strava segments that involve continuous climbing, or you can easily calculate it from your own data, using Google Earth if your bike computer doesn't record altitude. Good performance at LT might be anywhere from 500 (slower club rider) to 1500+ (pro).

Certainly not for everyone, but I think I'll keep on for a bit. According to what I've learned there are about 13 styles of yoga taught in NA. The one I'm doing seems to be the safest and hold the most promise for the benefit I seek.

I've done some hatha yoga and still use some of the postures for core strength and suppleness. Does nothing for your aerobic fitness, obviously, but excellent for mobility.

Until this class I used to think the same thing. Actuality is that proper breathing is a, if not the, key part of yoga. Proper breathing is also a key element in aerobic fitness and all that depends on that fitness.

As in, decreased cycling performance due to overtraining/under-resting? Or spending too much time on yoga at the opportunity cost of other important workouts? Or something crazy like he passed out due to the heat, fell and broke his wrist?

Just the opportunity cost. No one has unlimited time. Bang for the minute type of thing.

Just ride.
I started doing yoga several years ago, and do it fairly regularly. In terms of cycling, the most apparent result is that that it seems to improve my recovery time somewhat. If you stick with it, you may discover some other benefits, like some core strengthening and just feeling better in your body.
