upside down dynamo lights?

I'm going dynamo, and I like my light mounted under the basket:

The only dynamo lights that can be mounted upside down that I've found are the B+M IQ-X and the Schmidt Edelux has an upside down version.

Anyone know of any other dynamo lights designed to be mounted upside down?

I think you just figured out why a lot of people post photos on this forum of their home made brackets that keep the light right side up, but allow the light to be mounted below a rack.

I see you have some mid-fork rack mounting points, one possibility would be some threaded rod on one of those mounting points. But that would have a shadow from the wheel.

That current location under the basket is the result of years of research and testing. Minimal shadows, well protected from bumps, good angle on the road surface, etc.

I'll probably just go with the B+M IQ-X.

Bummer that you do not have canti brake mounts on that fork.

Is that a commercial or a home-brew solution?

I have been creative with dynamo lights and mounted them in front of the basket. If it is to the side of the wheel, the wheel blocks the light from certain angles.

If mounting a light upside down, check for holes where water could enter.

My years of research and testing invariably land the lamp in front of the rack, right above the tire . If reaching for the switch there is too much bother, I put one under the finger on the handlebars.

Mostly commercial. That is an Edelux extra tall bracket (possibly the same as the B&M extra tall bracket?), but I bent it upwards a bit to get the light higher above the tire, thus in that regards it is modified commercial. The light is high enough above the fender that the shadow from the fender is not an issue. Bracket came in black or stainless finish, I bought the black.
https://www.bike24.com/p224704.html

But the brake bolt for the canti brake was not as long as I would have wanted it, so I used some M6 threaded rod which is something most home bike mechanics do not have in inventory, plus some extra nuts and washers, that is the non-commercial part of it. Threaded rod is galvanized, not stainless, put a dab of touchup paint on the cut end to prevent rust. Touch up paint in this case is fingernail polish that is pretty close to matching the red bike color.

My fork crown is already in use for the canti brake cable holder, so I was looking for an alternate place to mount the light. You can see how my handlebar bag gives enough clearance for a light below the bag but not a large excess of space.

After the photo was taken, I rewired it so the wiring does not look so busy.

A lot of lights are poorly sealed against water ingress from the bottom and back of the light, if that position collects a lot of spray off of the tire, that could be a problem.

I normally extend the front fender so that it runs past the lamp in the front of the rack. The rack helps in the extension as the fender extension can be tied to it. However tyrion does not use a fender which suggests riding in fair weather only.

Incidentally, when I mounted lamps to the side of the wheel, I usually got more spray problems than for the central location over the fender. The commercial mounting by the crown is not an accident - it is just a very good place for a lamp. Extending it to the front of the rack is just following farther the same idea.

I haven't priced these lately, but I'd have to save a lot of money to get the IQ-X over the Edelux II.

67€ for IQ-X, 125€ for Edelux II at bike24.

Already ordered the IQ-X. Rubicon crossed.
