M. van der Poel

Was wondering if anybody could enlighten why Mathieu rarely wears gloves, particularly on the road.
I personally feel practically naked without gloves during my own puny little bike rides.

I imagine (making it up, but my kid did similar) he got real used to the feel from cx where you really need them and then they do offer protection. So, he was duplicating the feeling he got from a discipline he is very successful in. And they keep your hands warmer.

He's not the only one, funny in NL it gets pretty wet and cold and the Dutch for the most part don't bother with gloves on their grandma bikes. For me, I hate it when my gloves are too warm.
Van der Poel is one to watch, impressive, but Evenepoel is back, Groenewegen, too. Lots of talented Belgian riders around to keep the Dutchman in check.
