Value of Panasonic DX4000 55cm
I picked this up last weekend and replaced the bar tape with new, pulled most of the reflectors off and cleaned it up. I'd like to know what the informed think this Panasonic is worth. It's Shimano 105, 12 speed, clincher wheels and very clean. Look forward to your responses.

Tough to sell older road bikes like this in the Midwest. Treks and Schwinns get a lot of love but not high end Japanese bikes. I think it's worth something in the neighborhood of $200 or a bit more.

It can sell for well above that in an urban or university town. Some people like Shimano 105 groups. IMHO $275-$325.00.

Very nice work. Only thing it needs is fresh matching tires. $275 with matching tires.

Agree with oddjob2 that this is driven by demand and can command more in a university town or a large urban area. In my experience, it can be tough getting top dollar, though, in less sophisticated markets where only Treks and Schwinns seem to command a premium.

Do you spend cash on new tires to get them to match before flipping?

Spend $25-$30 for the new tires, makes a big difference in eye appeal.

Yes. It is amazing the attention tires get on a sale. Buyers assume (often wrong) that tires are VERY expensive, and anything that hints at neglect = big discount.
The only bikes where I will not use new tires are at much lower price point. Even then, the tires have to look good, and match.
New tires, new cables, housings, and bar tape are a given.

I'm cheap so I will go used a lot but all the bikes I have sold have good matching tires usually better quality. Without tires that can be used it just isn't bike which = $100 discount.

Just an FYI on the Panasonic DX 4000 I asked you all to give a value on. I listed it on Craigslist this morning and the first guy who stopped by paid the $350.00 asking price I had it listed for. Looks like Panasonic's are bringing a pretty good price at the moment.

Good sale. Prices are weak in the rural midwest but The Twin Cities, Chicago and other large cities are also in the midwest.

I don't know your area's market...in mine, with good photos and a good ad, $250ish. Maybe more if patient.

I would agree $275-300 with matching tires as is with the lesser non matching front tire $225-250 on a nice mid level bike like this with good cosmetics miss matched stuff can really hurt curb appeal and value. I would suggest check which tire is in the best shape then buy a new or better nice used tire from a local bike coop to match.
