Patina Rossin (Raffaela Rossin)

I could not bring myself to remove that paint, which is yucky for sure, but felt Marco Rossin would approve of the building of a rider-level bike for my son, who is a complete novice. He would probably not have chosen tri-color componentry, but it was available!

Obviously a quirky build but she looks much prettier now...before when cleaning...

And after...

Note the mountain bike pedals...PD M324, the most flexible pedal on the planet!

Tri-color, and goofy colored blue tires (hey they were available)

Something said pink to me

The brifters I had a headache from...

The test drive (once I actually locked the rear quick release...made for an interesting start)...

Heavy side, but sublime handling. Stiff and solid.
Seat is uncomfortable.
My first foray on tri-color apparatuses...rear brakes are spongy, front are monsters. Front gear shifts took getting used to...rear was quick as heck...surprised me.
For 2 for $20, the tires seemed pretty decent.
Pedals are cool and worked with my MTB shoes.

Now if the son can learn to ride it, he will have a flexible steed.

The bike looks great. It is not like a lower end bike with lots of chips and damage. This is a well made bike with some pedigree. The Shimano Tricolor components are good stuff.

When I club raced, one of the top riders had a frame that looked similar in the amount of patina. With him, he clearly put in the miles and the markings on the frame only served to warn you of that fact.

Yeah, I couldn't bring myself to touch it up and ruin Marco Rossin's masterpiece! Plus, it was going to be wall art (literally), but then I thought a build might be honoring the little gal's pedigree.

I got the frame reasonably, and although the fork is likely not original, it has matching rust and pitting!

And you think that saddle is going to make your son think "gee, this is soooo comfortable"?

I like it!
But it does need one Campy quick release nut to go with the "Campagnolo" sticker on the top tube.

I think I might have dropped one in while installing the seatpost...

I'd say a great old, early eighty's frame considering the number of bottle cage mounts. It's a beauty and looks to be Columbus SL tubing. I'd be very pleased to have it in my stable.

Patina bikes are cool! They have stories to tell. My ItalVega was so bad , but after a year of cleaning the rust off and polishing the alloy , it looks great and the patina has no effect on the ride quality. You have a fine bike and I wouldn’t worry about the paint , it is a survivor. Joe

Not really. I am thinking that he will not have to endure it and I find some bargain somewhere...that thing is NOT comfortable...I assume that is why it has been stowed away.

I think once my son embraces it, he'll find that it will be a fun rider...!
