I have noticed the difference a headwind makes. You feel like you are zipping along except the speed and energy expended is terrible. Aero makes a difference. This may be the year I get me some kit shorts instead of the baggier kind. Yet, on the other hand I don’t want every dollar spent on trying to make it easier. Then, there is mountain biking where it just doesn’t matter if one wears baggy, flappy clothes.

That's no joke. I also have a thin cloth skull cap that I'll put on under my helmet on a cold day. It's incredible how much such a thin skull cap under the helmet helps lower the rate of heat loss. That tiny little scrap probably enables me to ride several degrees colder all by itself. Combined with other things like the neck gaiter, perhaps a thin windbreaker shell, etc. it's easy to make a lot of improvement for not a lot of bulk.
