Hex head "track nut" ?

I've seen these on other bikes but don't know where to find them.

Basically, I don't want to go QR but I also don't like carrying around a wrench. These seems like a slick alternative.

Any help?

It's either an anti-theft locking skewer or a phil wood hub. You can get an anti-theft skewer at your LBS and use it after swapping out your axle for a hollow axle. As for the hub...you can find them anywhere, just make sure you've got lotsa monies.

Paul Comp hubs use 'em too. They're a bit cheaper than Phils.

it's definitely not a locking skewer and it doesn't look like anything offered by phil wood.

it was a big fat knurled nut w/ a hex center that threaded over (both ends) of a solid axle...

in principle, yes. but they did not look like the phil woods.

the ones i saw had knurling around the edges (for finger tightening).

they were on a formula hub (?) so they were most certainly an aftermarket add-on...maybe they were a custom job?

It's probably just a skewer with allen bolts on the end. Which means you'd have to replace your axles if you want to use them.

I wouldn't exactly call that "slack". But it IS a pretty picture. Love the colors.

This is also the first time I realized the plate thingys (feel free to clue me on the term) are removable. Badass.

They're there so you **** up the metal plates instead of your dropouts. Smart idea.

this thread is old.

nashbar has a bolt on skewer. it is a skewer that goes through your axle, with a super magical hex bolt on one side.

"the ones i saw had knurling around the edges (for finger tightening)."

Your fingers are not strong enough to twist tighten a track hub.
If you are messing around or maybe making a single speed, you might wanna check out the classic wingnuts that velo-orangecarries.

https://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...t%3A%20Skewers

They replace the skewers of quick release hubs.. Requires a 5mm allen wrench. Adjusting chain tension is a little more fiddly than an axle with a nut on both sides. You can't walk the rear wheel back by tightening one side and moving the other.

Delta makes a very nearly identical product that I've seen at my LBS.

FWIW, the OP is has probably been looking for Phil Wood hubs with the Keirin axle option. These are knurled like he described.
