Warbird v4
Anyone else check this out on the Salsa site?
https://salsacycles.com/warbird-evolution
It's like Salsa took all the wants from all the youtube videos I've seen about gravel bikes and decided to put them all in this frame.

Not a fan of carbon, so I hope they keep the alloy model. Looks neat otherwise, and that fork especially looks cool.

Carbon is kinda Salsa's thing now no? They make more carbon bikes than any other material at cheaper prices. Tour Divide folk don't seem to have any problems with their carbon frames though which says a lot.

Maybe they figure the Journeyman will fill the role the alloy warbird used to.
A real shame, a steel bike with those sorts of specs and fork would be fantastic. But they aren’t going to make one.

Interesting that they (and Trek) aren't following the dropped seatstay that other manufacturers are doing. But if they are improving the power transfer while maintaining stability, I'm all for that.

Well, sure, but given what that race costs in food and time a 3k frame that lasts only to the end of the race is good enough - I don’t think most buyers have the same use case.

I'm confused, did you click the link? It has the dropped chainstay (assuming that's what you meant).

This is probably to maintain the VR 5 flex in the seatstays, makes them more flexy.

These still have carbon forks, but IMO the Fairlight is a fantastic machine.

Yeah. I'm with Surly on racing, I guess.
Anywho, I hope they keep the alloy model (as they've had since they introduced the warbird), as it made for a good unracing bike - especially now that they've (sort of) added rack support.

Neither are options in the US - Salsas are everywhere here.

Sorry, i'm in Europe. Pretty jealous of your Salsa availability.
Although i'm sure you could get your hands on both of them if you wanted, but not sure how much more $$$ it would cost.

I'm sure I could, but there are other boutique steel options here (like this: Flaanimal 4 - Rodeo Adventure Labs, LLCRodeo Adventure Labs, LLC )

The underside of my Fargo looks like a rock-chip moonscape, from the BB to the end of the chainstays, and there are huge chips up the seat stays and behind the seat tube. Many of these show the steel underneath. The culprit? Exactly the sort of roads Salsa designed the Warbird to "win" on.
The other reason for them to include an alloy frame is that the alloy frame cost half what the carbon ones did - ~$1k vs $2k. That gap has narrowed, but I don't think they will manage to have a carbon warbird sub $2k (complete), like the Alloy has been for some time now.
If they can sell this frame for $1-1.2k, that would really be something.

This isn't about carbon vs steel. The Warbird is carbon. That isn't going to change. Discussing steel is completely besides the point. If you don't like carbon then move on to something else.
My Niner RLT 9 RDO frame has less features and cost $2300 retail and can be found on sale for $1650. The Warbird v4 has more features. Even at a price comparable to the Niner, the Warbird v4 is a compelling piece of gear.
Does anyone know what they mean by, "Suspension fork compatible - with currently available gravel forks?"

Is that 1K price a sale price? The Salsa site lists it for $1499 https://salsacycles.com/bikes/woodsm...odsmoke_nx1_29

I don't think they will ever get "there". IMO frame prices are a bit ridiculous. Not just Salsa, most brands.

Which is why the warbird will remain the least-cool bike Salsa sells - ever since they killed the Ti version. But at least they made this one rack-capable, so that's some moderate progress.
