Is this a WWII Military Bike?
A friend brought me this thing claiming it was a German WWII Military Bike... His mother had passed it down to him and thought it may have been a Nazi bike. As you'll see in the photos, the components are mostly english/brittish. while the saddle (which i thought looked original) is of russian design, it was manufactured in the states... i know nothing about the frame. does anyone know what this might be? what era? worth anything? is the frame german?

British, Russian, made in the U.S.A. not likely Nazi unless its prewar war but even then thay put the bent cross on everything. I have a friend that has dinner plates with that bent cross on them.

Now the real question, did the nazis have bicycles? and if so does anyone have any pictures of them? I can't really imagine a bunch of nazi dudes pedaling around on utilitly bikes with swastika headbadges.

Theres no doubt the Wehrmacht used lots of bikes through the war . (Their ammunition trains were often drawn by horses,) but I doubt there was ever a "Standard" bicycle. It would be interesting if we could find some more pictures though.
I would bet $$ that there were bicycles around every single RAF airfield though!

Although I didn't bother doing the usual massive documentation, I knew the bike was bloody close given the history of the DL-1, and I worked the brightwork in the same manner that the Lend-Lease Indians were finished. At one Highland games, we had a actual WWII vet of the regiment come through, and did a requested nit-picking review of the troops. The bike passed, his only gripe was that the guys were lacing their boots wrong. They were doing it by the manual, which in the field wasn't used as the troops figured a way to do it do a boot could be cut away quickly in cases of field injury.
I'm still surprised that after that experience, it still took me almost 18 years to get back on a bike.
