Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Not sure if this is the right thread but I figured I would ask - Is $450 a fair price for a 2000 Allez with Tiagra - it sounds a little high to me. Local CL

Hey Sharky. What condition, is it the EXACT size you need, what kind of mileage, and if it is ALL 105 from then it is probably an Allez Comp. So it could very well be woirth that. I paid 400 for my 06 virtually new with 70 miles on it and it has sora/tiagra mix. (For now)

Frame size is the same as my C'dale, so I imagine it is close in size. Its not all 105, its Tiagra with 105 RD. Looks to be in decent shape but have not gone to see it in person. Just stumbled across it, seller won't budge on price though so I will probably pass.

1988 Double Butted Cro Mo goodness. Really nice ride. This is how I got it, will resubmit after I do the basics-needs new bar tape, hoods. It is full Suntour GPX. Just wish it was a triple, kind of limits my riding on it.

That is a good looking Allez. Can't wait to get mine back from my g/f. I mean, my other bike is nice, but I need a daily commuter again, my other bike is just a tad much for commuting!

just purchased an 09 allez elite - new to cycling and have been doing indoor spin for about a year and half - time to get on a 'real' bike - looking forward to this summer with my new bike! stock everything except installed beefier rear tire (mavic sp?) and put some shimano spd pedals on it. I was warned about the 'no name' brakes but they seemed fine in the test ride. big fan of this forum gave me some background to work with.

2008 - Triathalonated

2008 Allez Elite - Tiagra/Sora

Not the typical photo, but you know what they look like by now...this is race day morning at Scott Tinley's Triathlon 2009, ready to roll.

Aero Bars - Profile T2+ Cobra
Crank - FSA Gossamer compact
Pedals - Look KEO Sprint
Drivetrain - SRAM chain and cassette (don't recall which)

For as long as this thread's been going on, I'm surprised nobody has posted this paint job ('07 Expert). About the only things left are the frame, seatpost, and Ultegra 6600 gruppo.

The hand-me-down Kysrium ES's were a nice upgrade from the stock Ultegra WH-R600 wheels, which are now being beaten to hell on my commuter, along with the original Specialized handlebars, which I hated. I have some Ritchey Comps on there now, which are okay, but not great. I had some Deda Magics in between that were much better, but they got smushed in a crit. No complaints about the Ritchey WCS stem, except that it isn't as stiff as the Thomson it replaced. The saddle is a Selle Italia Flite that's seen better days.

The fork is an older S-Works fork from a buddy's parts bin; it replaced the S-Works they sent as a warranty replacement when the original cracked at the steerer. No such luck the second time around; it happened in the same crash that turned my Deda bars into a pretzel.

The only other real "upgrade" I've made to it is Nokon cables (scored at a fire-sale price) and Kool-Stop pads for the brakes. They stop the bike magnificently, even at 45 mph in the rain.

Planned upgrades include another set of Deda bars when I can score them cheap on eBay (should be tomorrow if I'm not outbid), an ancient, wired Powertap that I got a deal on that should be arriving tomorrow, and possibly a better headset if I can do something about the stupid proprietary Mindset - it's the only think I hate about this bike!

All of those upgrades will be moved over when I replace the frame; this one has definitely seen better days, with some dents in the top tube and a ton of little scratches. Looking at a Salsa Podio, might buy the complete with Rival and use this bike's cockpit parts.

Got this one a little over a month ago. I ended up putting it back to all black & white, but this is the only pic I've bothered to take so far.

This is a 2010 Allez frame with the following changes:

Group: Dura Ace
Saddle: Saddleco Flow
Wheels: Fulcrum Racing 4

I've also swapped out the bottle cages since this photo to silver with red accents and specialized in white. Super sweet. This build only ways about .75 more pounds than my carbon.

Very nice, Sabazel! My Allez lost 2.5 lb when I took the stock wheels with wire bead tires and put my XR-200/American Classic/Revolution wheels with folding tires on it. Still a couple pounds heavier than my previous scandium bike with full carbon fork, but not bad at all.
