Building acoustic guitars, should have picked a hobby that wasn’t so costly.
collecting old metallic hand planes, up to 70 or so in the collection, always looking for something unique.

A Taiwanese Supermax mill. After five years working in bike shops I got more and more interested in machining. Started watching a lot of machinist youtube channels especially Ox Tools and Keith Rucker. The local community college has a one year precision machining program so I bit the bullet last year and went. Now I'm working in a machine shop and also slowly setting up a rented shop space with some friends who are welders nd fabricators. Hopefully in the next three months or so I can buy a used lathe of decent size, and maybe next year I can figure out how to use these tools to make money.

What is this money stuff of which you speak?
Seriously, tho', besides bike stuff, mostly medical expenses and nutrition supplements. And my cats.
I finally splurged on some decent cycling kit this year. Lost so much weight the past year my old kit was flappy. Nothing fancy, mostly shorts, bibs, jerseys, etc., from those Amazon vendors with goofy names like Bbbpppttti. But it fits and works well.
I don't even spend much on electronics. I'm such a cheapskate I waited 7 years to finally upgrade my 2012 desktop PC from the barely competent motherboard graphics chipset to a proper video card. And I still got the next-to-cheapest Nvidia low profile card that would fit my mini tower. I'm not a gamer, but it's nice to finally stream HD movies without st-st-stuttering.
And I'm still spending less than I did on beer. Love beer but it doesn't love me back. After my thyroid failed a couple of years ago I couldn't metabolize alcohol anymore. One or two drinks and I'd have hangover symptoms within an hour. Kinda sucked all the joy out of local craft beer. But that stuff was pricey. And potent. My favorite craft beers were all 6%-12% ABV. So almost-quitting (I still might have one light beer a month with pizza) saved a lot of money and I lost 10 lbs or more just from cutting out the excess carbs.

Same here. Our property taxes have risen 10% per year in recent years. Can you imagine that?! Plus the building department has been adding new requirements which makes living here more expensive.
Oh, but the question was about discretionary money. I don't spend much on anything, as I'm unemployed, but I guess my second interest is in music. I sing in several concerts per year.

A '65 Austin Healey Sprite. This was my second car...I bought it from the original owner (I still know her) in 1973. This one is partly disassembled but is starting to go back together. I've been threatening to take the original owner for a ride in it next year.
How long have you had your Alpine?

That's exactly why I got this one, I had been looking for one for quite a while and this one finally popped up, original owner, original sales receipt( $350) and manual, 2,000 miles and all the warranty cards, wasn't running but that's never a problem with these, a little fuel system cleaning and it was good to go!

Same here. We are taking three trips in the next six months.
Algoma, Ontario area for giant brookies and salmon.
Nye, Montana for various species of trout on the Stillwater and Galatin rivers.
Coeur d'Alene area in northern Idaho. For whatever bites.
and every chance we get we'll be chasing steelhead up on our North Shore of Lake Superior and the Brule in northern Wisconsin.
Fly fishing rods and reels make bike parts seem dirt cheap in comparison.
btw Our very own Rootboy makes some of the nicest flies I've yet to toss.
Absolute works of art. Deadly as well. imho

I have a few cool pens, and I like some fancy office stuff. A few Omas, some Pelikans...a couple hand made pens.

I swing flies. Works great.
I have never eaten a steelhead. Not enough around to take to the table.
You should try it.
Go to the grocery store if you want to take for the table.

Nothing wrong with keeping a few for the table. Helps me avoid the dreaded trips to the Grocery store.

Flintlock rifles and some other pistols, shotguns and rifles. The Henry 45 'lever gun' is fun to shoot! '57 VW Bug which has a Judson supercharger with a Judson boost gauge and a Judson 'magneto'. Those are rare items. It is in the assembly stage. '58 MGA which is almost finished. '59 VW Bug with a 'hot rod' engine and tranny. It is a 'driver'. I do most of the work myself. Planing blocks or other machine work has to be outsourced. Scratch building RC scale power and vintage sailplane models from my own plans without the use of computers. I make all of my own parts and draw my own plans for accuracy.

Thank You. They are called Sweetheart grips. It is my understanding that during WWII guys would scrounge a piece of plexiglass and fashion them into grips and put a pic of their girlfriend under them.

Richard Sachs has a pretty cool pen available right now, but I wish he’d picked steel over aluminum.
