How far from your local velodrome?

How far are you from your local velodrome?
I'm about 2 hours from the closest one, and I want to try it out but:
4 hour round trip drive for 10-20(?) minutes of racing
No track bike
I hate driving

About 10 miles, but that's 30 minutes in L.A. traffic. There are three within 2 hours drive.

I'm probably about ten miles from mine, too. It's on the other end of the long boulevard that starts outside my house.

They're apparently serious about building a world-class indoor velodrome here, wayyyyyyyyyyyyy out in the suburbs. I don't think I'll still be living here by the time they so much as break ground on it, though.

This coming year I'm going to use the track for Tues/Thurs interval and sprint training. I usually only ride outside on weekends and the trainer is getting boring. I like having more control over variables (wind, gradient, weather) for targeted training.

There are 3 within about half an hours drive of me. The closest would be 15-20 mins away, easy to ride there on the road bike. The best one is the full half hour drive, but it is worth it for sure. World class indoor venue, ride any time you like and racing all winter each friday night and other nights as well all summer long.

I do live in Australia though.

I'm less than 10 miles. From work it's a little bit farther I think, but not much, say maybe 12 miles.

I just ride my bike there, no driving needed.

About 2-3 hours. When I go to college it'll be 1 hour away from the same one. Whichever the one is North of Detroit. Amazingly enough, I haven't been there, but I have been to Northbrook, 7-11, and Major Taylor.

But it's the 10-20 minutes that count! All that crap on a road race (everything but the last mile or so) is just wasted time.

A typical track program will give you three or more races a night, and likely that two of those races have some intermediate sprints for primes or points. If you look at it the right way, it's like doing ten weekend crits in one night.

You will most likely have to blow a day taking a class put on by your local track authority. Time well spent.

To Crimson and Traffic:
How often do you make it out to the track?
TJ do you have a bike or did you rent? (I'm 95% sure there aren't any rentals at our track)

The last time I was out was in July, but that was at 7-11. I hope to get out at least 4-5 times next summer if I can convince my new teammates to get track bikes and race with me.

I'm about 10 or so miles from Major Taylor. I used the rental bikes last summer. They were 2-4 bucks depending on the night.

8 miles to the encino velodrome, close enough for me to build a clincher wheel so i can ride to the track and 30 miles to the adt track which takes about the same amount of time to ride or drive to.

About 35 minutes and 27 miles to the Forest City Velodrome in London Ontario. An indoor, short, steep track in my lifetime within a reasonable drive? Pinch me to make sure I'm not dreaming. I've been there 1-3x per week since it opened, 2 3/4 years ago. It's such a blast it ain't funny. Every city should have one.
