Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Assos F1 Uno bib

I understand that Assos is the way to go, and I found what appears to be a good deal on these shorts. Any feedback on this particular model? How do the legs fit on these? I prefer mine to fit really snug. Does this pair use the silicone grippers and do they hold securely? I hate when they ride up.

They run a little short.

While the grippers work fine, if you're really concerned about them riding up your leg, get some Mille, Equipe, or F1:13s.

Regardless, they're better than just about every other non Assos bib out there.

btw - If you wear Pearl Izumi, or something similar, get the smaller size. Assos doesn't employ vanity sizing.

I find that Assos is cut very tall and lean. If that's you they should fit fine. I am 5'-6" with short legs. Nothing they make fits me.

they don't run small, they run true - i.e. an assos medium is what a medium should be, where as a pearl izumi medium is actually a large.

fwiw - i'm 5'9" and wear Medium.

I'm 6'2 and 165lbs and wear a XL as their sizing chart indicates. Although I normally wear a M or L in everything else, I fit snug as a bug in these, so do go by their chart. I got mine on eBay back in August NWT for $112 shipped.

[and damn you botto, you were right about them]

Thanks for the link. I like the part in the text that states "...wear these for ultra-distance events when the bike is 112 miles long...". One can only ponder the size of the saddle...

i would suggest avoiding the Uno. fabric and fit is fantastic but the chamois was a disappointment. too much padding on the sit bones, barely any padding for the perineum. i find it ok on short rides (tolerable up to 75km) but quite uncomfortable on long rides. Go with the Mille.

this guy on ebay:tta_mem

his prices are the best I've seen and his delivery is amazingly fast and he's really honest and great to deal with.
I bought a pair and he was bang on with advice and delivery.

I've used Perls for well over 10 years and have been a large in all of their shorts and bibs.
Castelli take an XL. Descente a large but they were snug and an XL was too big.
