Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Renting a road bike in Miami

So I'm from Miami and heading home for thanksgiving next month. I've never had to rent a bike there before for obvious reasons, but I'd like to have one when I'm back. Anyone have an idea which shop(s) rent decent road bikes? I'd prefer not to go to Mack Cycle because I've had bad experiences there.

Instead of renting, maybe just buying an inexpensive single speed from Bikesdirect, Nashbar, or Performance, would might be a better option. You then return with a fairly decent bike. OTOH, there are some really cheap Xmart single speeds available for less than $200.

Yea was going to say Bike America in Pembroke Pines rents bikes. They have some nice ones, when I passed by the shop a while ago, I think the rentals were either a CAAD10 or a SuperSix EVO. Might be different when you go.

Buying another bike is out for a number of reasons, and that pembroke location is pretty far from my family's place (coconut grove), but it's worth considering! Thanks guys.

Also, I checked out Rosetti which would be great because I know they make solid bikes, but their road bikes rent for $70/day minimum. I was looking for something in the $30-50/range, but that may not be possible.

How about some member on here that's similar to your height/weight range and located in Miami? I'm sure a $50 would be plenty enough for a fellow BF'er. Just a thought. I know some guys are funny about that thing, but I'd gladly lend mine out if someone were here in town. I don't use it 7 days a week, unfortunately.

I'd be interested in that, but I'd imagine there would be trust issues! I'm 6'3" too, so it'd have to be a 60cm. I'll keep emailing shops around the city, it's hard to imagine that none would have road bikes for rent at less than $70 a day.

Hi Dan. Agree on avoiding Mack. My salesman recently moved to Cycle World, and while have not seen rental signs will be pleased to ask if they rent bikes and the cost. Not familiar with the other bike stores mentioned.

welcome back and no my bike is 54 or so. Where are you staying in case you'd like to ride. I live in Pinecrest so guessing you are not far away.

Ed

Hi Ed, that'd be great if you could ask about Cylceworld! I'll be staying in the Coral Gables/Coconut Grove area, so Pinecrest isn't too far away, you're welcome to join me if I end up getting a bike for a ride down to Black Point or a KB loop. Do you do any of the weekend group rides? I used to ride with the EBP guys every now and then before I moved.

I was going to recommend Rossetti. They also sponsor big group rides on the weekend. Even if you don't rent one of their bikes, you might want to join one of their rides.

$70 seems like a lot to rent a bike for a day. I could rent a Mustang for that much.

Hi Dan. Just heard from Cycle World and they don't rent bikes. Seems Miami Beach may be best option.

Rode in heavy wind to KB today while doing a 50. Usually go to Homestead marina past Blackpoint which is only 11 miles from home.

theres a group that leaves Saturdays at 7:30 from Pinecrest Grardens, but usually ride solo or with a friend like today. Saw a ton of groups so sure you can find some on the gables or the grove.

happy riding
