I only use them when I'm on the front. Never in the field.

From yesterday's Sacto GP M123 race. I think that's it for the year.

That sounds like it must have been annoying.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 1/2 mile loop with 65ft climbing per lap in 100m rise. Doesn't sound like much but try doing it in the Masters 35+ for 50 minutes in a 4 man break...

Thats me in the middle trying to use mind power to advance the time on my Garmin from 35 minutes to go to 2 minutes to go. On rivets about to pop. It didnt end well.

The preacher and the teacher

Newly minted Cat III preacher man in the blue and green and the Cat II teacher a bit farther back.

The preacher took a turn at the front trying to pull back the 9 man break and ended up popping. The teacher got tangled with a wrecked bike. Broke a spoke and ripped off his derailleur cable housing stop on his chain stay as he dragged another guys bike for a few yards.

Taco Bell, Burger King, and Hammer. A local tri geek owns a bunch of fast food joints and sponsors us. He and the other main sponsor are pretty good friends with Brian Frank of Hammer. We get a laugh out of it actually. Although, those logos are probably coming off for 2012 and being replaced with some local businesses / bike shop / bike brand.

I don't "need" them either, but I have good reasons for using them.

I'm seeing more of them in the Masters fields. One guy who I will not name has them set up to point straight out, so that he can grab them in the IAB. I figure it's only a matter of time before NEBRA takes a stand on them. This is why I asked before Thater.

fwiw, i think they help in the sense you hold an aero position going 17mph up a 3-4% incline. Doing that in the IAB is very tough. Anything less than 3% and i can hold the IAB just fine

Just before the turnaround after 8 miles at 26mph ... pretty heavy wind on the way back hence the expression of pain.
I got major cramps after 13 miles and it didn't end too well.
