Yep. The bldg is still there I believe. I think it was converted to trendy urban lofts.

Haven't seen Dad's Root Beer in a WHILE.
Falstaff Beer is long gone.
Furrow Lumber.
Azar's Restaurant.
Mr. Wigg's (competitor of KMart, way back when).
(Strictly local, but Didier Meats is gone -- the co-owner was murdered in a robbery. Six months after buying my house, I discovered that the people I bought it from were the parents of one of the three who robbed the place. Their son, according to the story, flipped on the other two....)

...how about all the railroads that disappeared, not literally but certainly in name, they still exist on paper as legal entities but are long gone:
Santa Fe
Southern Pacific
Burlington Northern
Northern Pacific
Great Northern
Spokane Portland & Seattle
Frisco
Chicago & Western
Western Pacific
British Columbia Rail
Pennsy
New York Central
...the list is way too long, but you get the idea...
Being a rail fan used to be a lot more fun than it is today...!!

My grandfather was a freight conductor for Santa Fe and when he retired he got free tickets on Santa Fe passanger trains anywhere, any time. Amtrak took over and it became a 50% discount.
Freight conductors as train crews are gone too, replaced by computerized switching yards. I grew up in Barstow CA, which was a Santa Fe company town. It's named after a guy who was president of Santa Fe around 1900 when the town was founded. The Switching yard is still there, but Santa Fe's payroll in the town has shrunk by half due to the high tech train staging, and closure of the diesel repair shops. The town has turned real ghetto crack house central. My dad is glad he got us out of there when the going was good.

So their marketing material makes it appear the month before they begin production, just like the last four failures to resurrect the brand. Polaris has deep pockets and a long term vision, though, so it does look more promising this time around. But will Indian's success kill Victory?

K&E and their slide rules. I picked up a couple of nice ones that had been abandoned by transferring/retiring engineers.

I believe K&E is still around, still making drafting triangles, architects and engineers scales. Did not Google them, so not sure.
HP dropped the RPN (reverse polish notation) scientific calculator over ten years ago I believe. I hated to see it go, but people refused to learn RPN, in spite of it's awesome efficiency.

The mention of slide rules somehow reminds me of J.T. Slocum micrometers.
They were still selling these new when I first started out as a machinist. I had 3 of them until my toolbox was stolen from my workplace along with a few other peoples boxes. They were replaced by the insurance company but, by that time, they were no longer in business and I replaced them with another brand.

Odd that HP doesn't make a scientific calculator using RPN, but the 12C financial calculator still uses it.
RPN is one of many exceptions to the "build a better moustrap" rule. I haven't met anyone who used it who didn't regard it as superior to algebraic notation. Yet, it is virtually dead.
I miss it.

Mine finally bit the dust. Got me through graduate school and my senior project ... a simulated 14-state control system. I loved the fact that you could even use it to control HP test equipment.
OMG, but that was a great calculator. Pretty sure I wouldn't have the heart to throw it out ... I should look for it. I also still have an HP-25, charger and storage case. Oh, the joy of a cup of coffee and a programmable calculator when writing up lab reports.
I'd love to find a replacement battery pack. Like a fool, I chucked the old one.

I think they still make a lower end scientific with RPN - the 35s or something like that. I've been meaning to pick one up to back up my 48G, but to tell the truth, at work all I use is a 10-key (and Excel for anything more complicated). I sure do miss my 41CV though, got me through engineering school, and through the PE exam (back before they restricted use of programmable calculators).
