Basically, I'm planning on just adding stretching and core and isometric exercises to my walk regimen.
If the community college has a nice gym, it might be worth taking one class a semester just to get student priveleges to use the gym and pool.

Nearest campus is 12 miles away- a bit too far to walk on a consistent basis , plus AFAIK none of the campuses have pools.

Tried to get RunKeeper to 'share' to facebook (and it said it did successfully), but...
Okay, because I'm an impatient one and tired of waiting for RunKeeper to post it.
5.46 miles in 1:45:24 at 3.11 miles w/760 calories.
Route was Home->Doc's office->Warehouse Market->my kids' school->Home. The Doc's office is ~2 miles NE of me, Warehouse is ~1/4 mile NNW, school is a mile S of me. I know, kind hard to picture without a map (reason why I tried to share from RunKeeper).

And I opted out of my normal QT->Home walk.

A nice stroll up to the immigration office ... and then a wander looking in at a few shops. One in particular has shelving units we might be interested in.

After work today ... we walked down to the beach and back. We stood on the beach, listened to the waves, and looked at the lights in the distance as darkness set in.

Then we strolled past the grocery store to pick up dinner.

All up ... 1.75 km!!

The beach and the grocery store are not far away.

A couple of posts from my fb wall
Walk report time, data by RunKeeper, route: Home->Kum&Go->Salvation Army->Home.
6.12 miles in 1:58:17 at 3.10 mph w/868 calories burned.

I tweaked the share setting in the app after saving this latest activity, so hopefully the next one will show up.
I haven't gone over the info I picked up from the Salvation Army yet, but they have updated their fitness room since the last time I toured the place. $20/mo plus $10 app fee, but that includes the use of the pool (when not booked by private parties or classes).
Another walk report using RunKeeper. Route: QT->slight detour into Kelly Lane Park->Walgreen's->Anytime Fitness->Home.
2.88 miles in 59:33 at 2.90 mph w/403 calories burned.

I blame the slight reduction in speed to fatigue, heat, and traffic.

Speaking of traffic, nearly got clobbered by someone driving a white van. Happened at Main & Taft. I was crossing to the East, van going West from Southbound. Instead of going on red while the intersection was blocked by the E-N and W-S turn lanes traffic, s/he waits until they get done and the E/W through traffic starts- which is when the walk signal lights up- and this person decided to 'jump the ***' and force his turn... and I've already stepped off the curb at that point ><.

I somehow managed to take a quick, giant step backwards without falling on my ass, the van tapped its brakes, and then went on its way, I took a deep breath, then proceeded to scurry across while I still had the light.

More
Third walk report of the day . Route: Home->Anytime Fitness->Warehouse Market-Home.
RunKeeper- 3.07 miles in 1:05:41 at 2.80 mph w/442 calories.

There may or may not be one more for the day. I placed 4 items in the hand basket at Warehouse and arrived home with only 3 (luckily I was only charged for what made it home).
and another...
Last walk report of the day. Route: Home->Warehouse Market->Home.
RunKeeper- 0.72 miles in 15:25 at 2.79 mph w/103 calories.

So grand totals for the day are:
-12.79 miles
- ~ 4 hours and 20 minutes (rounded- too tired to do exact second conversions)
-2.9 mph
-1,816 calories
And now it is time for me to go take a shower- assuming I can get up off the couch, that is.

My only purpose at work today was a couple of meetings conveniently spaced three hours apart, so I took advantage of the time in between to get out and do some bike stuff. It was a great day for it: mid-60s and sort of cloudy and damp - it reminded me of the West Coast.

I rode to work with the trailer, then went and did some errands. After dropping stuff off at home, I switched bikes, took a short ride up a big hill, returned to work, and then rode back home. Total for the day: 16 miles with 1000 feet of climbing.

Saturday -- 18.61 km.

A relaxed ride in our new area ... exploring. We did a bit of town riding, a bit of trail riding, a bit of country road riding. It was wonderful to be able to do a ride like that from home instead of having to drive somewhere. So nice to be out in the country within minutes. And this is a really pretty area too. I'm looking forward to even more exploring.

It helped that it was a beautiful sunny day with a high of 16. Feels like spring!!

Today we cycled to a cat show.

But not all the way there. We did drive part of the distance to get over the big hill, but we cycled the rest of the way. And then we cycled some more. And then we stopped for ice cream on the way back.

Decided to go check out a couple of Chiropractic offices today. Sadly, they appear to go to lunch about the same time I'm usually out and about . Trying to find one that accepts cash payments and not bother with insurance, but the one office I caught as they were closing up for lunch failed to comprehend that...

The numbers-
-Endomondo: 3.7 miles in 1:14:58 at 3.0 mph and 597 kcal burned.
-Google My Tracks: 3.67 miles in 1:20:57 total (1:05:02 moving) at 2.72 mph avg (3.38 mph moving) and 433 calories burned.

I didn't start them at the same point (location or time), but I did manually pause both at the same places and at home.

FWIW, Endomondo has proven to be rather liberal with the calories burned calculations, Sports Tracker has been the most conservative in that regard, while RunKeeper and My Tracks take the mid ground and are fairly close to each other. Endomondo also has a disparity of data between the local storage (on tablet) and the cloud based service- today's walk shows ~1/2 mile less on the tablet

This week so far ...

Monday - just a short walk to the local pharmacy and a bit of window shopping + walking to and from the bus. Total: 2.1 km

Tuesday - a longer walk looking for a birthday present. Success!! Plus walking to the bus.
We also went to the gym where I walked briskly for half an hour on the treadmill + a 1-hour intense spinning class. Total walking: 5.5 km

Wednesday - a longer walk to my chiropractor, and a bit of window shopping on the way back + walking to and from the bus. Total 3.5 km

Nothing very exciting this week - just riding to work and back, and now two trips across town to the grocery store.

Tonight, I broke all the rules - riding at night, hauling stuff at night, etc. I figured I'd do a big shopping trip tonight, and save my precious work-free daylight hours for something more exciting. The stars were out, the streets were dead, and for the first time in months, I could see my breath. Also: there is nobody else grocery shopping at midnight, which is awesome.

Was off the bike for most of the week... have been resting / nursing an inflamed hip.

Got out last night for my usual 20 km ride and took it slow and easy on the recumbent and think I will take myself out for coffee this morning after the girls get dispatched to school, which will be a short ride, but I have to keep these legs moving lest they seize up.

I also need coffee and know they just roasted up a fresh batch at the store...

I rode down the the watershed council meeting last night, about 1.5 miles each way. I usually walk to something that close, but the meetings frequently go until after 9:00 and I wanted to get home. Even uphill my bike is faster than walking.

Got dropped off at the high school and walked from there to City Hall (paid the water bill) and then home. Was mid to upper 50's and I did not beat the rain home . Then in the evening I walked to the store and back.

I'm still evaluating which tracking app to use to log my walks with.

You might consider Moves. I downloaded it a couple of days ago and I'm quite pleased with it so far. It automatically tracks how far I walk and cycle.

Lake St. Clair, the baby lake of the Great Lakes. Most of my life is surrounded by trees and suburban architecture. Today I saw the horizon, with boats on it.

My mother grew up in Grosse Pointe and St. Clair Shores, so she always taught us that Lake St.Clair is one of the six Great Lakes. Did you ever go to Harsen's Island? It used to be fun to go there on the rusty old ferry, back when I was a kid. I don't know what it's like these days.
