Moots Bikes Experiences?
A buddy is looking at bikes now, just wondering if anyone has any experience with Moots? How's the build quality, customer service?

Moots? Top quality titanium.
I've only heard/read good things about the company and the bikes.

In my opinion it's the best Ti bike out there. This is coming from someone that had a Seven. The build quality is excellent. The look is nice and the logo is tasteful and distinct.

Certainly one of the top builders in titanium out there. I see them every year at the North American Handmade Bike Show and they make a wide range of bikes. They also make nice stems and seat posts.
If I was to pick a titanium bike they would be third on my list. Firefly, Kent Ericson, Moots. The difference between 1 and 3 is not very big at all. I am sure your friend will be quite please if he buys a Moots. I always loved there Moots Comooter.

the show they had here a few years back in Sacramento. It was very informative...the topic was "how to do this and still make enough money that your kids can eat" or something like that..for novices in the custom frame business.
But yeah, pretty advanced in the world of Ti frame construction. Moots? Point: For Premium Bike Maker, It?s Titanium or Bust | WIRED

For those who may not know, Kent Eriksen was the founder of Moots. The name Moots comes from an alligator shaped pencil eraser Eriksen had when he was a kid. The eraser would make a sound like "moots" when squeezed. I think Eriksen sold the company because it became bigger than he wanted to deal with then started up Kent Eriksen Cycles. Both companies are still located in Steamboat Springs, CO.

Thanks guys. Friend got an email reply from Moots on cost. They quoted $7000-10,000.
Ouch! I expected $5000, because of the material and custom frame built in the States, but that's a lot. Like, a couple more (good) production bikes more. At $7000/8000/9000/10,000, I'd be afraid to leave it out of my sight.

Beautiful bikes. I got to look over one the other day at my LBS. The welds on those bikes are simply gorgeous. Makes my Lynskey feel like a big box store bike. I love my Lynskey and it will be a forever bike, but those moots, simply stunning with stunning prices.
The owner of my LBS rides one and he says it's as stiff as his Super6.

My SO had a very bad experience with Kent and a poorly built frame.
A friend of mine lives in Steamboat and she said that she heard that Kent got bought out and forced out of Moots.
My SO later got an Independent Fabrications Steel Crown Jewel, that he is very happy with.
If he goes titanium next it will be another IF bike.

I would not recommend Eriksen unless you are sure you will love your bike.
