How Much Wind Do You Tolerate?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It definitely can be an issue. I suppose it depends on a variety of things.

All I know is that I weigh approx 170lbs and on occasion it was dangerous riding with my 50mm wheels when the wind got up. They were the ‘old shape’ though.

I've never measured the cross-section of my 4" Fat B Nimble tires, but I can tell you that a gusting cross-wind will grab the front wheel and cause you some control issues.

Reference: 2015 Almanzo 100 with winds gusting over 20 mph.

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

Reminds me of my old commute which took me past a golf course. They had gone green and switched to natural fertilizer. That wasn't so bad, except that they stored it adjacent to a short steep climb.

So, for me, it wasn't about wind speed as much as it was about wind direction.

I remember that video.

That would be DNF (or DNR=did not ride) for me in that event, on any bike, was anyone else using a fatbike?

How many riders dropped out?
