What bar tape are you using these days?
I’m looking to branch out a little from my standard cloth bar tape or leather wraps. So what are people using these days?

I have some of the fiz:k tape on a few of my bikes and like it a lot. More comfortable than the Benotto cello I usually use.

Fizik soft touch, very comfortable and still thin enough to like good on vintage bikes.

I've put Brooks Microfiber on two recent builds
Was very impressed. Easy to work with, strong, good feel, only $20.

I have Fizik on my best bike. Rock solid. It's been on for years and looks brand new. Never think about it riding. All the rest of my bikes have doubled up black cloth. (Inside wrap is discontinuous old tape. Free and it masks the first holes in the outside wrap. Frayed, yes, but no bare bar to be seen.)
One reason I am a big fan of cloth tape is taht it does not unravel after it is broken or chafed through so never becomes a dangling ride hazard. A couple of years ago I watched footage of a well-placed professional ride hard to make up time after a crash in a race. His tape was ripped. As he made his way through the peloton back to the front, he had to wrap his tape repeatably just to stay out of trouble (while in heavy racer traffic). The camera gave this a lot of exposure. I was thinking "this isn't exactly good advertising for that tape manufacturer!"

I'm still using Benotto cello tape and cloth tape on my vintage bikes, but am trying the Fizik on one of my newer old bikes. I don't particular care for all the little holes in the Fizik, though, and can't understand why they put them there, but it's a lot more reusable than cork tape (which is usually just extruded foam). Please don't use a leather wrap: using leather (and other animal products) just contributes to the environmental mess we're making of the planet, not to mention being cruel to animals. From a performance standpoint leather doesn't seem very practical either.

I use the Brooks honey leather to match my saddle. I dig it.

I have Fizik Microtex on nearly all of my bikes now - it works well, holds up well, and looks good pretty much forever (even in white) because it's easy to clean.

I have found Fizik is a fine quaility tape and it matches my Vintage H2 Selle Anatomica saddle. I ordered an extra roll as a replacement down the road.

I ride without gloves and use Performance Bike Forte GripTec2 almost exclusively. It is durable, comfortable, washable, and has just the right amount of grip for riding. It is padded, but not excessively so for my taste. Lizard Skin performance at half the price.
If I want a lower profile tape for a bike and don't mind a little less comfort, I'll use Fizik MicroTek.

The Microfiber I referenced above is made to match Brooks's Honey, Antique Brown and Black saddles. IME it's easier to work with and looks like it will be at least equally durable. It's also less than half the cost of leather.

I did not have a hard time installing it. My only issue was the number of seams on one piece. I honestly have a hard time believing that microfiber is as durable as this leather.

Part of what I meant was that the microfiber has more elasticity to it. If there were ever reason to remove the leather in order to rewrap, its "memory" meant it had to be rewrapped almost identically. Not so with the Microfiber.

I have fallen for Nashbar soft grip in black. They are out sometimes but when they have it I stock up. Soft and grippy and pretty tough. I tried Lizard Skins and it didn't last one season.

When I re wrapped the bars on my RB1, a Nitto Dirt Drop off old MB1,
I used Fizik's Gell under tape pads and their tape that came in the kit..
The pads are sold separately as well,,

I buy 1/4" rubber automotive vacuum hose tubing, and tape that down with electrical tape along the front and back edges of the bar tops to create a wide flat area for my palms to rest.
Then I use a layer of old inner tube over that. And finally I use regular cork ribbon tape over that, but only wrap the bar tops. That way, I can wrap two bikes with only one set of bar tapes. Drops have inner tube wrap only.
Very comfortable and well-padded with or without gloves.

We don't need no stinking bar tape...
Really cheap (and embarassing).
Really, this is mostly lack of forethought, and willfulness.. But what a ride.

Cinelli cork is my go-to.
Brooks microfiber is pretty sweet too. Bonus: The thick cloth finishing tape that looks like crap on the bars is superb underwrap for clamp-on bottle cages.

I am using some type of padded, rubbery, "imitation cork", type of grip tape from REI that I bought about 2 or 3 years ago. It's starting to get worn out and I need to replace it soon.

Tressostar! This is C&V, what's with you people???
Lol! just kidding. I like Tressostar a lot, but I also like Cinelli Cork and Cork + Gel. I'm tempted to try Selle AnAtomica, but haven't really considered pulling the trigger. And there have been Profile Design and Forte on my bars, I am not guiltless!
I've never tried shellacking bar tape.

Deda Elementi
I really love the Deda Elementi, firstly because it is cheap, cheap enough you can get 2 for the price of one of most other brands. Second it is really good quality, and comes in different styles, like the first picture is the leather like minstrel, the second carbonesque carbon (verydurable). and the third cork like feel. Huge colour range as well. All varieties are durable enough to be removed and rewrapped a few times, the weakest being the cork like one.
