Anyone have any experience connecting a headlight to a Shimano E6010 series Steps mid drive? I was hoping to get one that plugged into the computer as it has a light button, but after lots of searching, I am about to give up.

Just an observation for what it's worth, Trek's Conduit model tapped the Shimano Steps system to power its OEM headlight. Although it was a low output light, it might be worth finding out how they did it.

Dig into the frame and see if there are lighting leads hidden inside. 6v is the usual for lighting circuits on e-bikes. Confirm that with a meter before ordering something.

My daily's light out is 48v (54v fully charged) so i used a downstep module to make it 12v. That allowed me to use a 12v cree motorbike projector lamp (which i placed inside a traditional lantern housing). I did the whole lot for about £20 and it's mad bright.

Hi there,
I realise you posted this a while back, but just in case you've not found out, the light connection is behind the LHS motor case, You'll have to remove the crank to access it, There's a pos and neg terminal, important to get the polarity right. The output is 12Volts, standard for an E bike. If you download the Shimano Dealer manual for the motor, all the information is there. I leave my lights on all the time, and in the daylight, post the front light straight ahead the than onto the road.

I have a shimano STEPS from 2017. Not sure what the number is. But I am painfully aware of the limits of the battery. I've thought about getting a light, but if I do, I won't hook it up to the motor. It will run on it's own battery. Especially now, the battery is a few years old, and doesn't hold as much juice as it used to.

I knew the connection was at the motor, didn't think about it just being under a cover. I want to put a front rack on my wife's bike, but I have hesitated because the wires would need to be extended.
