Empty, half full or packed, they hang nice. EZ on and off. I could add all sorts of "stuf" to tinker with but they simply have no need for all that.

I bought a BOB last Spring to try out touring and I liked it (both the BOB and the new pastime). For the first few weekend trips, I just hooked up the trailer to my mtb with no modifications. In September, I put a front rack and small panniers on the bike in order to keep more stuff close at hand since it gets to be a pain to untie everything from the BOB just to make lunch. I can install or remove the rack as needed, but the bike is otherwise just my everyday mountainbike.

Then I had a hankering to try out lighter touring without the trailer, so I "roadiefied" my uncle`s old Schwinn mtb over the Winter. So far I`ve only made one trip with it, but I like it too. It`s also fun for paved day rides with the 1.25 tires I have mounted (almost microsocpoic by my standards). My panniers are very small- they worked, but I prefer a little more room. I`ll either get some that are a little bigger or another equally small pair and go with both front and rear. I`m keeping my mtb of course. It`s still my regular ride for local trails and I can hitch up the "chariot" for rough terrain tours. By the way- I`d love to do a mega tour one of these days, but I`m pretty happy with my weekenders. Since I get a lot of three to four day weekends with my work schedule, I`ll probably just keep doing the mini tours and hope for good enough health when I retire to do a biggie. My dream trip is Reno to Guadalajara and back. Anyway, here are pics of my two loaded rigs and links to my two longest rides to date (both four day trips).

Here's mine preparing for my first big trip!

The red panniers are actually childrens backpack with florescent spraypaint over the logos. I am gonna spray some waterproofing stuff on them as well. The tinsel makes it go faster. Tent, sleeping bag, and tool kit on back rack. I have a smaller army sleeping bag that weighs nothing and folds down to the size of a shoe box that I am probably going to take instead of that bulky green one. The tool kit is a surplus WWII canvas tool holder that aparently tank mechanics used. Its crazy handy and rolls up with all the tools/parts secure in it. Selle San Marco Regal saddle.

Gonna put some SPDs on before I go, and a handlebar bag. I also plan to put a floor pump on there because I hate dealing with handpumps. I also have some front racks and might put the red bags on the front and get some plastic kitty litter containers for the back (something I saw on this thread back in the page 20's).

And yes, the back light is in a more practical place now.

I am a broke student so I am trying to DIY as much of this as possible. Any tips/hits would be hugely appreciated!

Bring back fond memories of my first solo tours in the early 80s. Don't worry about the gear just go and enjoy the open road! Btw, that fan won't be of much use me think.

Closest as I can figure it is a st500 from circa 1984 because its pretty much identical to this one: https://collection.rydjor.com/bikecollection/1983can.htm I am taking it from north Florida to central Florida about 400 miles. Llooking at it as a bit of a warm up for later in the summer when I plan to bike to DC and Kentucky.

Tinsel is left over from Tallahassee's Christmas parade. Loved it too much to take it off.

Give the Topeak Road Morph G a shot. Flexible air hose, built in gauge, fold out foot peg and a swiveling grip makes it like half a floor pump. I love it so much I bought one each for (nearly) all of my bikes. I'll never use any other handpump, unless I just absolutely have to.

I managed to get a couple from Amazon at $20 a piece, free shipping, they're back up to $30 now though. keep an eye out though.

My rig that I have slowly built up over the last year. The front bags are really too large, and I now just use the rear bags and a front handlebar bag, and put my hammock on the top of my front rack.

Experienced record rainfall for May on my 10 day trek from Crescent City to San Francisco. Had a blast! Hopefully I can get a trip report up when I am not so busy.
