Pain from umbilical hernia repair 25 yrs ago?

Hello,
I'm a newbie here and looking for help. I had 3 umbilical/epigastric hernia repairs over the years, no mesh and occasionally I feel a pinch after biking.
Then I get indigestion and lots of pain for a couple of weeks. This time they're not going away. I can't find anything on the Internet about this and when I've mentioned it to my gastroenterologist she doesn't think it's my hernia site.
Has anyone had a problem with their hernia site from pushing hard on a ride?
Thanks so much.

'Cause when we're not talking about bikes, us oldsters are comparing notes on aches and pains, many of which are accentuated on the bike! I used to make fun of older people who talk about this stuff, but it turns out getting feedback from others can be quite helpful.

I had one o` those about 9 years ago; must`ve had the mesh fitted. I think they have to tie the knot roughly where the belly button is, and push it back in or something.
only trouble has been a spiky protrusion, pain free, which now looks like a proper belly button; the quack sez to go in if it bothers me. I haven`t noticed it awhile.
For your indegestion, try a teaspoon of bicarb, in plenty of water last thing at night. Keeps me running sweet.

My repair was 7 years ago. Cycling no, doing hard ab workouts at the gym had left me doubled over in pain several times- fortunately everything checked out ok, and I now modify that portion of the workout to things that aren't as bad.

Anyway - if it's not going away, time to go get it checked out.

My repair was over 25 years ago. It was very small. The MD was actually surprised I noticed it. I've never had any problems and that includes doing lots of karate and centuries.

Sounds like you don't believe your gastro. FWIW, I agree with her, and apparently so might some other posters. Your issues sound gastric, your hernia(s) are structural. I've got to ask though... given your health history... is cycling really the go to exercise for your aerobic fitness?

As I understand it recently, what a lot of us 'older' people consider as "indigestion" is actually caused by a LOW stomach acid environment. Bicarb is absolutely the worst thing to be taking for low stomach acid. Make sure you actually have high stomach acid before taking antacids or bi-carb.

i`d get a second opinion. You should have no troublw biking after a hernia`s healed. Maybe you did (do) need that mesh. Wish you well, man. Hard knowing whether the medics are somewhat biased by money. And that may mean several consultations, etc etc.
Am I being cynical? Is it ok to be so disposed?
