Additional arch support??

My wife has been using Shimano cycling sandals for quite some time. But she is currently wearing a brace until she has surgery for collapsed arch.
So has anyone used an insert to add a bit more support with a sandal??
Thanks!

I've not used sandals but have l arch support in the right shoe. For an unknown reason my right knee flops inward toward the top tube. The arch support physically shoves the knee outward where it belongs. With a sandal there is no shoe to locate the arch support. Maybe use duct tape or Shoe Goo.

I have Superfeet brand insoles in most of my hiking boots. But have only used them in one pair of biking shoes, have not used them in any sandals. Since your weight is on the ball of your foot or slightly behind when cycling, I would not be surprised if she finds that no arch will be needed with cycling shoes or sandals.

Is she going to get a custom made foot bed insole that is shaped exactly to her foot? If so, she should bring her footwear when she gets fitted.

I suspect that she will need to buy regular cycling shoes if she needs an arch for cycling, but if her experience is like mine, no arch support will be needed for cycling.

If she looks at Superfeet, they come in different thicknesses, to the best of my knowledge only sold as pairs. I have three different thicknesses for different pairs of shoes and hiking boots.

I have tried Superfeet and they are ok but when it came time to hike the AT nothing compared with my orthonics from the doctor. I have hiked/ walked thousand of miles on them each year for the last 6 years. When I started cycling I wore sneakers now mtb cycling shoes and without a doubt in my mind the orthonics make for a better ride IMHO. Happy feet and a brooks B67 make for many pleasant miles.

Insoles for walking are different than insoles for cycling. I'd recommend she look at the Specialized Body Geometry insoles.

this sounds like a question for her dr, not us. Shouldn't she stick to lace up shoes if she needs support, though?
