cutting carbonfiber MTB handle bars ?

Is it a bad idea to cut CF bars ? if not, what's the proper way ?
I would be installing barends.

Huh? If you're installing bar end extensions then you NEED all the length you have. The ends fit on over the end of the bars and clamp to them. Not to the inside.

First check how far you can move the brakes and shifters inboard. Then use hose clamps as guides for the finest saw you have. Coat the cut ends with epoxy to prevent water being absorbed by the fibres. MTB bars are much too wide for road riding with bar-ends.
