80º with overcast skies, 79% humidity and 10-12 mph winds made for a nice 35 mile MUP ride just before the rains started. Also, I finally broke the 10,000 mile mark on my road bike. Never thought I would ever ride that much when I started back into cycling three years ago. There's also 2,500 miles on the hybrid, which I hardly ride anymore.

29 miles rural miles this afternoon under sunny skies. 56° W Wind 6 mph. The pace was good but I am getting the feeling that as my distance increases again this spring I am needing to carry a few more snacks to get my energy levels back up after about an hour or hour and a half.

John,
Great job on the 10K in three years! Every time I see your mileage totals I envy you your riding season down there in Florida.

Thanks Mort, I'm not sure I would say that after today's ride. It was very hot this morning with not much wind when I started out. Temps at 9:00 AM were already in the mid 80's and rising. I got my 35 miles in but it wasn't pretty. The heat really slowed me down on the last part of my last lap.

That is quite an accomplishment John, well done, sir. Maybe we can ride together someday, you and Mikey always keep me encouraged in my riding.

51 mostly solo miles today. The rest of the group wanted to go to breakfast 10 miles in and I had already eaten so I headed off on the planned route. 56° SE Wind 14 mph and sunny. I managed the first sunburn of the season on my nose.

I am working up to either a imperial or metric century by the middle of May. Not sure what I'll be ready for by then. Could probably do the metric already with a little paceline help.

Wife and I did the Tierra Bella (100K) on the tandem. Weather was absolutely gorgeous, temperatures probably peaked in the mid to high 60's. The last 3-4 months we have barely been riding; I'm really proud of my wife for sticking it out since she's been having saddle problems. She's taking a nap as I type this.

About 30 miles in western Delaware County, PA. Nice day here, a little breezy, in the high 50's. Loving my Domane, a very comfortable ride!

Congrats on that 10k miles! Quite an accomplishment......

36 miles this morning on a club ride. Mostly flat but a few hills. Grey skies, windy, 40's but dry. Supposed to be sunny and 70's Sunday afternoon.

Did the Tierra Bella Century . Climbing 6500 feet of elevation really puts a harsh in the average speed. Usually I have bad luck with the wind and seem to ride when it is real bad. I lucked out today and got most of the northbound portion done before the winds picked up and got some tail winds on the way back down. I pity folks that came along later because the wind really picked up! Congrats on the tandem ride, rd! That was a tough course. I took some photos that I'll put up in the pic of the week forum.

A bunch of us from the C&V forum rode the CCRT end to end and back, plus a side trip over to the Atlantic. About 45 miles total. Sharon and I were on the tandem, of course.

At the start:

Facing the Atlantic:

Return trip, a stop at the Harwich Bike Rotary, 3 miles to go and the sun is out!

I did a 100.28 mile ride known as the "Lost River Classic" that takes in some of the back-roadiest roads I've ridden in awhile. The ride started near Woodstock, VA, and went over into the hollers and gaps of West Virginia. Seems like every road I was on had a name that contained either Hollow, Gap, Run, Creek, or Mill as part of the name. It's been about 4 or 5 years since I did this ride. I don't know why I haven't done it recently. It's close and it has two nice climbs as well as some very beautiful backwoods scenery. Beautiful and a little scary too, frankly. I never heard any banjos, but I did get called out to by Cletus and his girlfriend sitting out in front of the trailer as I rode past:

Cletus: "This one here, she LOVES you"!
GF: "No ah don't!"
Cletus: "Yes, she LOVES you"
GF: "Ah don't either"

I only rode a couple of hours without the arm warmers on, but I still ended up with a nice sunburn. I'll take it.

The ride was 90 miles, but I wandered around some dead-end roads near the start to add up to a hair over 100. I'm stupid that way. 7.3K of climbing:

Yesterday I rode a century. Today I rode 3 miles with my wife on her brand new bike. Both rides were equally rewarding, for entirely different reasons.

It was her first time on a bike in years. I am hopeful by this time next year, she will be ready to do some shorter organized rides, and eventually be up for getting a tandem. In the meantime, we need to start shopping for proper clothes.

44 miles on the Pigeon Loop this morning with NealH. About 3900' of climbing on a beautiful route through Pisgah National Forest. Neal took it easy on me today after his 65 miles yesterday. Perfect weather for a ride though a very cool brisk wind stared us in the face as we made the climb back up to the car. Temps were great though I could have done without the headwind.
