Caad12 Ultegra gearing question
I'm considering a CAAD12 Ultegra, but the issue is that I would like a compact crank and a 11-32 cassette. If I understand correctly, this requires a derailleur change as well. Two questions:
1) Roughly, how much does the derailleur, cassette and chainrings cost to replace?
2) The CAAD12 105s are on sale. Could it make more sense to buy one of these and buy a full Ultegra groupset matched with the gearing I desire?
Thank you,
Robert

I thought the current CAAD12 Ultegras come with a compact crank? For the cassette, I think the RD they spec the bike with can accommodate up to 30t in the rear "officially", which makes me think you'd get by with 32 no problem so long as you don't spend all your time cross chaining in 50-32.

Are you saying that some dealers will swap take off parts with their own inventory?
The 2018 CAAD12 does come with a semi-compact crankset. Depending where you may buy this bike, you can spec a RD-8000 GS ( long cage) derailleur, and a 50/34 crankset. It looks like 52/36 come stock with a SS-RD and 11-28 cassette. As I said, you should be able to get the bike with a 30/34 Crank, GS-RD with a 11-32 cassette at NO extra charge. I know the Cannondale LBS here will, not sure if REI will. It can be had, good luck.

The Cannondale dealer shop I worked at would help the customer as much as possible (within reason) to spec a stock bike. We would ask Cannondale to install the crankset for request, then order the cassette and RD. A lot of times, there would be new cassettes and RD in the shop already on hand. Talk to the shop, ask, and then decide if they are willing to help you get the parts. If not, then you could buy the parts your self, sell new take-off parts on fleabay or craplist and recoup most of the cost. I just know the shop I worked at for Cannondale would most likely have done most of the work to satisfy your needs without cost or very little at most. (speaking from the Middle Tennessee area)
