Mercier kilo TT crankset upgrade.

Been riding this badboy for three weeks now, the default gear was 48T/16T which made me have only one skid patch, so i bought a 17T EAI cog for more skid patches, which made my gear ratio a little higher. i feel if the TruVativ Touro cranksets arent that great, so i plan to upgrade them. What cranksets do you guys recommend? i was looking at the sugino rd2 messenger. my budget is around 150, and i want 46T cranksets.. will that make a big difference from 48T/17T to 46/17T?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I like the Andels, and they are only $125 shipped froms Ben's including a bottom bracket:

Cranks >>> https://www.benscycle.net/index.php?m...oducts_id=1532

Bottom Bracket >>> https://www.benscycle.net/index.php?m...oducts_id=9452

Note: The cranks come in other colors (blue, grey, red, silver, white) if it matters.

They are a notch better IMO. I have 3 of them and they are very well finished and round. The chain tension is very even with them and they stay tight on the BB. They run smooth and are stiff. I think they a great value at that price. All-City sells them branded for a lot more.

Like I said, more for less. The Andel chainring is 7075 aluminum, which is better than the 6061 aluminum of the Sugino. The Sugino is a 130mm bcd road double crank with the inner chainring removed, whereas the Andel is a proper 144mm bcd track single with a recessed bolt in the back of the spider, just like the higher end Sugino 75. Here's what the white Andel looks like.

I have a Dura Ace 7710 crankset that I'd be willing to let go for cheap. I'm include crank arms, dura ace chairing, and dura ace bottom bracket.

The chainring is 47t which gives you max ski patches in each cog.

PM me if you are interested.

Yes, the bottom bracket is sold separately. The Andel cranks require a 110mm JIS square taper, so any BB meeting those specs will work, but the Andel Cobra one I showed in the link is good quality and just about the cheapest you can buy. Also, it includes the crank mounting bolts, which don't come with the cranks. The Suginos don't include a BB either.

How's about the SRAM Ominium crankset? That appears to get good reviews...it's gotta be better than the Andel too, no?

could somebody please remind me why a kilo is such a fantastic bargain that it is instinctively pushed at any opportunity in bfssfg?

op's been riding "this bad boy" for all of 3 wks. he has already had to buy a new cog, is about to sink another $150 into cranks (with some helpful guys suggesting even more costly versions) & likely additional for a bb. undoubtedly more, not inexpensive, upgrades will follow very shortly.

what am i missing?

Seems hardly anybody gets the bug to upgrade the bag of meat on the bike though! BTW, my original bb and cranks have been on my "rain" bike for a few years now, and still work fine.

TT - do you run 3/32 on your Andel's?

My Andel came with a 3/32 chainring stock. No problems thus far, but from what I've read, the 1/8 is preferred.

ps. i really enjoy my Andel.

All 3 that I bought from Ben's were 1/8. The Andels that came on my Wabi Lightning are 3/32. I can't tell any difference between them. The only possible advantage I can forsee is that the 1/8 will probably last longer, especially on the smaller size chainrings. Since only the teeth are thinner, and the thickness of the remainder of the chainring is the same, there shouldn't be any difference in stiffness.
