Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Ordered a Swobo Sanchez

I'm a road and tri bike guy who's gotten sucked into the single/fixed scene. I went to a shop in Savannah that only sold s/ff bikes and got blown away. Nice looking bikes, cheap and fun. I've been looking at bikes now for the last month and finally bit on a Swobo Sanchez (with brakes and a freewheel) when I got a price of $406 including FedEx ground shipping.

So tell me what's wrong with the bike, what I should have gotten instead and how I got ripped. Let the hating begin!

i think it's a cool bike. geometry is urban, good for pot holes, curbs and riding over grass. it would make a cool fixed mountain/ cyclocross bike. but serious it's badass

if you like the bike and feel that you got a great price, why worry about what others think.

I just bought my first ss bike 2 months ago and I'm having the most fun biking in a long time. I bough a se draft light and I have heard the pro's and con's of what I bought.

I have put new things( pimped it out) bull horn bars, campy brakes, new levelers, a new bottom bracket and crank..sram new off of ebay.

the best thing abot ss/fixed you can build them up cheap.

ride and have fun.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to do my best to avoid pimping it out much as I intend on using it as practical transportation and on Crtical Mass rides and want to minimize my losses if it gets stolen or wrecked. Having said that I'm already looking at wheels ;-(

I would have given me grief for buying a bike called a Sanchez. What's up with that? They could have come up with a cooler name.

Around here Critical Mass rides are really more fun rides. I understand that they may be something else in other places. It's off point but I'm kind of curious about why you feel that way.

Well at least we have adults in the fray.

Nothing's wrong with the name Sanchez. It's a great name. Not just for what is supposed to be a particularly cool bike. Looking for something at is evocative.

Wasn't really into rebuilding a new bike to be what I wanted. There you have it.

Great bike. I have been riding the Sanchez for a couple of years now.
It is track legal also if you want to race it at the velo.
Good luck.

Got it. Easily assembled but a torque wrench is helpful. Everything pretty much the way it should be other than the front brake which needed multiple adjustments. I can see that the first thing to get changed out is the freewheel as the stock one seems kind of sticky but most parts seem decent. I'm also getting some spoke noise as they must be unhappy with my 200lbs. The bike is from Taiwan rather than the PRC which I think is good. Looks pretty good assembled. Forgot my photobucket username and password so no photos. Rides nice but I've looked for the gear shift a couple of times. I'm thinking I'm going to be liking it!

OK, here it is. Rode it 20 miles on Sunday. My biggest gripe is that the handgrips get sweaty. I may yet go with a Shimano 17T freewheel but once moving it stays in motion pretty easily with the 16T. I have no idea of what speed I'm doing as I need yet another Garmin 305 GPS mount. Bike handles well and looks good although a chrome Kilo TT takes it on that point.
