Brake Bridge - Brake Mounts

Brake Bridge - Brake Mounts
I'm having trouble with the rear brake rebuild of an '83 Ciocc. The rear brake bridge looks like this:

I've not come across this type of bridge before. A search on the web shows it up on Waterford Bikes, as well as a Mixte on Royal H Cycles. On the Royal H Cycles site it is attached to a centre-pull brake caliper.
The recess hole in the front is 10 mm. Is there such a thing as a 10 mm recessed hex nut, with an M6 internal thread? The standard 8 mm (M6 internally) is too small and also too long. I can put a sleeve on it to fit and add washers to pack it out, but that isn't ideal.
I'm fitting a Campag SR first generation side-pull brake.

By front face, I assume the side toward the front of the bike? If not, then the only thing I can think of is where I have seen the brake mounted on the "front" of the brake bridge ILO the standard rear mount. Not seen often but once in a great while.

That looks like a Gippiemme brake bridge. If you want to mount nutted calipers, you will need to make some sort of a bushing for it. If it were mine, I would start with a proper nut for that bridge, and drill the the threaded hole out large enough to allow it to slip over the bolt.

I have seen one or two frame like that. I am not sure why it was done other than perhaps to make you use a certain brake brand/model. I agree that nylon insert looks like the best solution.
