Campagnolo Veloce Double Front Derailleur Vintage 9 Speed Era (28.6 Band On) - Broken

Hi,

On my Vintage bike Campagnolo Veloce Double Front Derailleur Vintage 9 Speed Era (28.6 Band On) is broken.
I have removed it from the bike is there compatible replacement part available.
Is it possible to ride this bike on say middle back gear and lower front, basically single speed bike.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thx

You can probably find an exact replacement on ebay but I wouldn't be surprised if almost any 8 or 9 speed double FD would work. Campy front shifters are pretty forgiving. If you can find a gear combo that will permit the chain to stay on the big ring w/o dropping you won't hurt anything by riding it. If the chain drops you could hurt yourself or your bike.

Campagnolo front shifters from that era were not indexed. So any front derailleur (double - 28.6mm clamp, bottom pull) should work with the left shifter.

At the bike Co-op I volunteer at, there is probably 10 pounds of such derailleurs that would work - at $5 per. Suntour, Shimano, SRAM road, etc.

Last resort: Ebay; it will take seconds to find a compatible unit. Or last last resort - an open LBS who has some of these undesirable 28.6mm clamp derailleurs in a bin, which hasn't been touched for years.

A few years ago I found some new Sora 28.6 for maybe $12. Nicely finished shiny silver. I've used them on a couple of projects and they work just fine.

Hi All, Thanks for your useful suggestions and advice, I would try to sort out my bike next week. I have just checked and probably it needs new chain as it's broken now.
Any brand would you like to suggest for chain and how to check size/type of chain to order .

Thx.
