was just reading about the 2 mile extension in Wellfleet from where it ends now in South Wellfleet at Lecount Hollow Rd & will soon end at route 6 (orange). looking at the sat image I can see where the railroad previously continued across route 6 past Unclcle Tim's Island at Duck Creek (yellow). too bad the extension won't get us across route 6!

good for you. That sounds like an awesome ride. I can’t wait to get to the CCRT again. Admittedly it will be far warmer when I do.

Looks like a nice ride. Around here all the parks are closed. The off road bike path is still open. So every one who did the wrong thing in the park, has now moved to the bike path, and stands around close to each other with no masks. I just go straight at them and stop and stare at them.
Eventually they get it. Hopefully they feel stupid. It looks like they do.

If you do that you can't show off your $5,000 wheels and your
$10,000.stereo in your $500 car.

If only the Ford on the right. The Subaru Forester is a 25K+ car these days. But when you have 'artisanal' bikes at 5K+, that doesn't look so bad.
Sitting in cars likely reduces any aerosolized particles from blowing around, unlike in a circle.

I’d throw the Soma on my roof rack and head down there but I’m afraid I won’t see an open restroom along the entire route.

fwiw - on the cape side of the canal, there are rest areas & dirt patch pull-offs next to woods. The rest area w restrooms right on route 6 (I forget location) has a back area one could cheat with. The parking lot on lecount hollow rd in Wellfleet has an unlocked portojohn.

A great day to ride the C.C.R.T. The temps for the ride mid fifties and sunny. My wife and I started in Dennis. We rode the new extension to the end. It ends after Bayberry Hills golf coarse. It it a 5.5 mile extension from DENNIS. We rode back to Dennis then continued on to Nickerson state forest, took a break and then rode back to Dennis for a ride of 32.84 miles. A few notes on the condition of the path, From Dennis to about the 8 mile mark there were a lots of frost heaves they were all spray painted pink. Never seen this many. People on the path not many, not many riders. No port o potties, The bike shops were open. Over all a great fun day to ride.

Thanks for the update. I have next Friday off from work because I was originally going to ride to Portsmouth and back for a 3 day CC tour. After having canceled my room reservations at a nice looking brewery turned into bar/hotel up there. Anyhow I was kicking around the idea of driving down to the CCRT for the day. The coffee shops and outhouses being open makes it an appealing idea.

it's almost June, might want to bring a mouth/nose cover just in case the pollen picks up. I remember mid June it gets really bad

I have a weird favor to ask anyone who rides the trail. there's a section about 50-75 ft long, where, on one side of the trail, is a slope or hill & it's covered in a low, green plant that seems to be a strong grower early in the season & would be good to fight erosion in my back yard. it's pretty pronounced. sorry don't know where it is, or what side of the trail, but if you see it, can you take a close up photo so I can identify it?

it looks something like this. thanks in advance

wound up getting 2 rides in, w/ the family for a whopping total of 23 miles.
we drove to this beach Crosby Landing Beach, approx address for a GPS is 10 Crosby Lane, Brewster MA. cpl things ...:
the tides on the bay side are not the same as the ocean side, so if want you to swim be sure the tide won't be so far out
but it is beautiful

there was so little wind, this gentleman had to get out & walk his boat back

Wifey reserved parking online, clever girl, for $20 for the day. no need to print a parking pass, they use license plate readers when they drive around
there is no parking attendant
there is an overflow parking lot just down the road a 5 min walk away
I put my bike on the car just in case I had to drop off the group & ride, just myself, but that wasn't necessary
the parking I plotted was:
- opposite 3299 Main St Brewster, MA & visually confirmed the CCRT parking lot as we drove by it
- shud be another parking opportunity where route 137 meets route 124, try 90 MA Route 137, Brewster MA (aka Long Pond Rd)

related, as of 7-17-21 the CCRT parking lot at the Northern end, approx. 50 Lecount Hollow Rd South Wellfleet, MA is closed for construction & I saw that they are indeed extending the trail!

I got back out there to investigate the extension but decided to start in South Yarmouth. I got to end of the extension where it becomes a dirt trail parallel to the power line. I stopped for a big snack & a couple wearing enormous inflatable tubes, walked by coming from Duck Pond. they said "you're almost there!" but I had to ride back on the road bike. I might just return w/ an MTB & tool around. I've seen some double & single tracks out there that I haven't been on w/ a bike & some I haven't ever been on

if anyone needs a cure for insomnia ...

used "find my phone" feature to provide my location at the end. the blue dot is me. the diagonal pale green trail next to the blue dot, is the power lines. the trail I'm on is to the immediate left of & parallel to the power lines

& looks like this

the extension itself is so nice

minor exceptions

look forward to riding it again!

did a little recon yesterday, late in the day, to find parking that would get me on a MTB to that northern extension end. parked at White Crest Beach (no charge after 4 pm, but otherwise, during the season, it's now $31.50 via a pay station in the lot across Ocean View Drive from the beach. modest bath house w/ sinks & flush toilets. no showers or changing area like Marconi Beach, but a welcome oasis on a hot day. there are still lot attendants there, but they don't take the money. also discovered a lovely series of single track trails in there

that old dirt road / jeep trail has some soft sand but most of it is firm & rideable for regular mountain bikes w/ 2.25" tires. generally downhill heading West. going back East I only had to walk up one short, soft, sandy hill. explored one of the single tracks. but just a taste cuz I was just gathering info at the end of the day. I had another bike & hike project further North, in a different town, that took up most of my day. it will be fun to find out where some of those trails lead. maybe next week? maybe in the Fall

went back again w/ the MTB to explore the maze of trails through the woods. had an epic ride, in epic heat, circling down from White Crest to the dirt rd, then took a right North on the 1st single track, & a left at a big single track intersection, worked my way thru the woods past all the ponds, Great, Dyer, Long & turning around at Gull Pond after a snack. Gull Pond has a bath house w/ flush toilets & cold water sink. I would have been in heat related trouble later if I wasn't able to refill one of my large water bottles there. from Gull Pond Rd, took the power lines (rough & hard in the sun & heat but loved it! then the old RR grade (yay easy), to a single track, directly into Duck Pond, where I recuperated enough to find my way back to the RR grade, the CCRT extension & the dirt rd back to Ocean View. 12 miles in all. before taking that single track off the RR grade, I had to lay down for a few minutes due to some mild? heat exhaustion. yikes

the Cape is roaring in vacation mode. sadly PJ's on route 6 was closed, even after 5pm. must be a staffing issue. I'll share more elsewhere, when I can & not hijack this thread. still lots more trails to explore in this same exact area but also off to the left of the main dirt road, meaning West & South I think

work trucks are back on the extension

I'll enjoy watching this, this winter. squeaky front disk brake. grrr need to work on that
