Giant escape 3

Yes, it’s a 2016 Giant escape 3 charcoal / red paint scheme.

https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/escape-3-2016

What kind of fenders are those?

Thanks for the positive identification.
The fenders were bought used off of craigslist from another listing.
Being on a tight budget, I tend to gather parts up a little at a time.
I think they are the Planet Bike 700C Full Bike Fenders.

It really is too small for me, I've mounted an extra long seatpost, but it's like a BMX on me.
I'd like to eventually buy a new Giant Escape Disk when stocks are back in at my LBS.

Those look like the Planet Bike fenders, but most of the PB ones have the rubber flap at the bottom of each guard, which these lack (and it doesn't look like they were once installed there, either). Are there holes with missing rivets, possibly indicating flaps that may have once been there?

It looks like the rear wheel was also replaced at one time. The original wheel would have had a taller rim dish section (similar to the front) and would have had a freewheel hub (and different tire is a clue also). Your wheel looks like it's been upgrade to a freehub with a cassette.

The Planet Bike Hardcore Fenders have the mudflaps, but this is a model down their line and doesn't have them. The mudflaps would be nice on those rainy days, but these were available nearby.

The reason the rear wheel has been replaced was I had an encounter with a lifted Ford F150 4x4 that did a "rolling stop" through an intersection and didn't see that I was already 1/2 way across. I nearly got away, but he clipped the rear rim.

Their Full Bike Fenders lack the flap but seem to have a different style of stay (that loops around the top of the fender). Maybe these are an older style they don't sell anymore. Either way -- they look good!

Hmmm... you are correct. It could be this set I got off of craigslist is a knock-off, but they seem well-made (withstood getting bashed by the rouge F150 4x4) and the price was right. ($20.00)
Didn't get any information from the seller.

The escape disc appears to have solid gravel capability.

If they ever get them in stock in my size, I really want to move up to a Giant Escape 2 Disk.

Gravel

I’ve taken my Disc 1 one on gravel, but I would definitely upgrade the stock crosscut tires to something more gravel specific if I was riding gravel regularly.

Couple summers ago I bought a 2019 Escape 2 disc city. I had an early 90s Norco mountain bike that turned into a dust collector for almost 20 years following a motorcycle purchase. I ended up giving it away. After a move, I decided I wanted another bike and bought the Escape. A change in job this summer has allowed me to commute on it (very short commute: 15 min walk or 5 min ride). I'm going to try some light (overnight) touring on it in early September.

Started tinkering with it this summer. I've added Shimano PD-EH500 pedals, a 100mm, Specialized Comp multi stem (currently at +20 degree), and Ergon GP2 grips (I should have gone with 3s). Next up is a saddle change. When the stock tires wear out, I may experiment with a wider tire.

I'll post a couple pics when I reach the necessary post count.

I've looked at the specs for the Escape 2 City and it looks like it checks most of the boxes on my list for my next bike. Interesting upgrades you've done, too.

So far it's been a good bike. I had a wonky BB this summer that was sort of fixed with a regreasing but is starting to make noise again. I will likely replace it this winter.

I'm still trying to find a good setup where I don't feel cramped. I went with a small frame as that fit me better for standover but found I was a bit cramped (prob doesn't help that I was in the 250 lb range at one point). My goal is to lose a bit more weight (I'm at 235ish now) to see if that helps before I start messing around with new bars and the like.

I have a Giant Escape R3 2012 model, do anyone here own one? And converted it to a cantilever brake?

Rear rack search

Topeak Mtx rear rack only lasted a week. I bent it in a tip over. Any suggestions on a rear rack?

I'd buy another one -- it looks like you already have the bag. You can sometimes find them used at good prices. There's someone on Facebook Marketplace selling a new one for just $10...but it's just far enough away from me that I can't justify making the drive just to have an extra one on hand.

Recently purchased a Giant Escape 3

I was looking to get back into cycling for exercise. It has been 30 years since I rode a bicycle on a regular basis. My short list consisted of a Jamis Coda S3, Fuji Absolute, and a Giant Escape. Due to Covid all bicycle shops had limited or nonexistent stock. I went to a local shop looking for a Jamis. There wasn't one in stock and they could find one available. I left my name and told them to call me. I waited 4 months and a Jamis was still not available. So, I started to look for a Fuji Absolute and a Giant Escape. There was a black Escape 3 in a shop over 1 hour away from my home. I called them and it was still in stock. We took a drive down to test ride. It was sold. They had another black Escape 3 in a box. I asked could they build it. Yes, but I would have to come back the next day. After telling them I lived 1 hour + away, the salesman went in the back. He came out and told me that they were building a red one and I could test ride that. My next question was the red one for sale? He replied yes. So, I did a test ride . Loved it and brought her home. I am satisfied with my purchase. When I get enough posts I will post a picture. Hope this keeps the thread alive. It is sliding down the list.

Congratulations on your purchase of a Giant Escape. I am a happy owner of a 2018 Giant Escape disk. Let us know how things are you for on the bike as you get into riding it more.

I've been scanning craigsliist daily for a larger Escape to replace the way-too-small Escape 3 that I've riding for a year or so.
It took a long time to find a used one at a reasonable price, as there are a lot of flippers/scalpers asking more than list price+ for used bikes.

Finally, the stars aligned for me and a Large-sized 2016 Escape 2 City was listed and the seller was within 10kms of me. It seems to be in very good shape, but I have set an appointment with my local bike guy to give it a check-up/tune-up. This bike is the exact model I wanted, should be perfect for my daily rider with fenders & pannier rack already installed.
I will do a few minor mods like installing better pedals and my preferred seat, mirrors & such, but it will be so much better to ride a frame that fits me.

No pics yet, but here's a stock photo:

OK, it was a nice day out, thought I'd take a few pics before it gets set up & modded to my preferences.

The guy who sold it has a bad back so stacked the bars up pretty high for an upright position. I'll remove the stem riser and probably mount new bars.

I've set up an appointment with a local bike mechanic to give it a check-up & service if needed.

^ You've got 5, I think that's enough to post pics, which model of Escape do you have?
I spoke to my LBS guy, and he didn't expect the 2021 models to be in stock for another few months.
When this 2016 Escape 2 City popped up on our local craigslist at a reasonable price, I jumped on it, as I'd been looking for an Escape in a Large frame to fit me better.

I'll post some more pics once I get all the personal mods & fitting done.
