Mid 80’s Ritchey Ultra Build ser3009

Bought this off a guy who was given it by the original owner. Needless to say it is in a state of disrepair.

What's the plan? Full repaint & restore? Spare parts commuter?

Cool bike. I’d strip it down to the frame ASAP to get on top of the rust issues. The parts look good though.

Here we go

There were two spots like this that concerned me. After some LIGHT sanding it ended up being basic surface rust.

Can’t say enough about how good a product EvapoRust is. Most of the rust was superficial and removed with an overnight bath in it. Parts stripped and ready for dishsoap warm water and good old scrubbing.

Now the wait for new cables, chain, housing, Seat post and saddle Hope you all like. Not a pro and not perfect but very rewarding and quite happy with the progress. If anyone wants to add pics their similar Ultras that would sure add to the thread And perhaps lend some ideas😉

Seat on the way

Well I finally found a Turbo saddle for the Ritchey. So it should be here next week, before the seat post🤷‍♂️ What are your thoughts on me using red cable housing? I like the pop it would add to the otherwise black and white bike.

But the purity!! You ruined the PURITY of it!

Kidding of course. Great job and nicely done. I assume you sloshed some evaporust around the inside too?

What type of paint did you use? Autobody touch up?

what color is the text in the Turbo saddle? Match the cable housing to that.

if you do go red housing. You are going to need a red bottle cage too

I'd go black to match the frame graphics.

I'd choose silver or grey. I don't really like contrast housing that draws attention to itself. Maybe instead get some bright red grips for extra flash. Or wear silly clothes.

seat is typical black with white turbo on back and sides I may have to see the red on then decide from there.

What a timely thread. I recently picked this up for my wife. I am considering a powder coat as the frame has been well used.

Fairly sure it is a 1988 Ritchey Ultra

Measured mine up today and based on components and measurements it’s an 89. Specs are very similar for the 88. What fork is that on yours.
also love that white saddle
