New poster with some recently acquired vintage bikes...
Hi everybody! I decided to get an account because I've done a few tear down/rebuild projects, but I have a few coming up that I may need some advice on. It's a sickness, I tellya...it all started when I got my stepson an old Mongoose Rockadile off of Craigslist. It had been left out in the rain and had mud caked on it everywhere, but it looked like it had good bones so I paid $20 for it.... and thought I'd just clean it up and whatnot...but I couldn't stop, and ended up tearing it all the way down and stripping the frame to bare aluminum.
Since then I've done my '85 Trek 460 from teardown to rebuild, and an '82 Fuji that was mostly just swapping parts. And I'm just waiting on tires for an 80s Ross 10-speed that I did for practice.
Well, I just came in to some really nice vintage bikes, mid '70s: a pair of Raleigh his/hers, and a Schwinn. I've taken some liberties with my previous projects, but I want to get this exactly right and as close to original as possible. So I figure I can get some good help here.

Thank you! I'm really looking forward to these 3 bikes. I will have to sell a few since I went from N+1 to S-6 literally overnight. A guy who own a shop here posted a bunch of his 'project' bikes that he wasn't going to get to for $25 each. As soon as I saw it I said I'd take 5 of them if I could get first pick the next morning....and now I have 9 bikes

Yes, LongTallClyde , while we're waiting for pics, let us know the models of the Schwinn and the Raleigh. And yes, you can upload to the gallery and a user can embed the pics for you.

Ok, so apparently I was also limited to 5 posts in 24 hours AND no PMs to let someone know I had posted to the gallery. I did post some pics though!
And I guess I can post freely now?? I dunno?
Edit: So the rundown is:
198x(?) Ross 10-speed
1988 Columbia commemorative Mountain Dew mtb (Mint!!!)
1976 Schwinn Suburban
His/hers 197x Raleigh Sprite 27s.

It's a small bike, I think it would fit someone 5'4" pretty ok based on my wife standing over it.
Adding a better pic to the gallery shotrly.

It is not a sickness. I like to call it an obsession! I have been messing with bikes for a while now and as long as you have the space there is always another bike to do. My problem is I don’t sell, I just buy, refurbish, ride. After several years .........I have a few bikes. Welcome and it looks like you are among like minds,Joe

The dyno hubs and bells are probably worth the price of admission.
The Suburban looks to have the Shimano "FFS" front freewheel system. A number of threads on that subject here.

I told a friend the other day it has FLAIR, BI**H! Now I call it "the 'flair, bi**h' project."
I will be honest, I wasn't sure what the dyno hubs were when I snatched them up. Looked them up when I get them home and was very glad that I did!
Checked the FFS out today; very interesting. It also has Positron shifting and looks to me the second version if I can tell, which calls in to question my conclusion that it is a 76. I must be a 77 or 78.....
And it looks like the general consensus is to run away from those, but I think I'm going to try to get it working again. Shifting works right now, it's just really stiff and doesn't have the full range of motion. When I get to it I'll try to un-gunk it and see what happens.

I might be interested in a dynohub for my Sprite if you part anything out.

Well my plan was to do the Schwinn before the Raleighs, but considering the peculiarities of the Schwinn I might do a Raleigh first. I don't PLAN on parting anything out, but I am steeling myself for having to cannibalize one of them for the other. At the moment I don't think I'll have to, but we'll see I guess.
