After a long wait and many rumours, here is the new 2020 motor from Bosch.
edit: this new system will also have built in anti-theft GPS

- 2.9KG (down from 4KG in the old Performance CX line)
- Regular chainring (no small sprocket like the outgoing model)
- New chassis
- Almost all resistance removed after motor cut off
- All new 600Wh power tube battery

Yep, if they could get the whole shebang down to something like 30-35 pounds ( bike, motor, battery and accessories ) , now that would be worth swooning over.

Eventually it will happen. I built a sub 35 pound 2000 GT Zaskar with lots of light parts that I already had (carbon Ritchey fork, titanium seatpost, DT 240 wheels etc) and a 10 pound BBS02, 3.5 pound Luna 52V - 6 ah battery. Will be sub 30 when a lighter DIY mid-drive is available.

Motor is likely to be lot more efficient than CX combined with 600wh battery, would be close to same range as CX with 700wh battery. Good enough for full day of MTBing without need use eco 90% of time.
A 600wh powerpack maybe bit much to ask for they can't change physical size as needs to be interchangeable with 400 and 500wh versions.
Hopefully there is option adjust power settings via phone app.
Expect there to be Performanceline (63nm) replacement along with 45kmhr speed version.
I'm not expecting much change from current CX 75nm, which is more than enough for most eMTBing and enough to match Shimano E8000 which has been eating into CX market share.
Still large market for current CX drive especially in cargo ebike market which it dominates and entry level MTBs. Saves manufacturers designing expensive new frames.

We'll need to see what the marketing hype dictates; maybe more companies will go on the "two smaller batteries" bandwagon (use just one for shorter rides, two for longer). My LeBS, Luna Cycle, can't seem to keep their 52V, 6 ah, 3.5 pound batteries in stock. I used one to assemble a light mid-drive.

I wonder when Riese and Muller will do a Supercharger in this configuration with 2 600WH batteries with Rolhoff E-14. That will be the dream for heavy loaded and hilly touring.

As for the Bosch system, to me it seems like they're sort of ripping off Brose. That's not necessarily a bad thing; Brose motors are efficient and function more similarly to conventional bikes. Obviously the new Bosch doesn't have much field testing, so we'll see how it does, but I still prefer Brose since they've employed this approach longer.
