New Shift Cables
It's the little things sometimes. I actually had a shift cable split on me last week, so I replaced them with the Jagwire Elite sealed cable system, man, I forgot how effortless shifting could be. I was shifting gears on the way in to work this morning just to shift gears!

Another thing that can help is to drop some chain lube into your housing. Pull the housing out of its ferrules, put like 5 drops in the 'uphill' side, slide the housing back and forth to work it in.
But yeah if you've got broken strands, definitely replace the cables.
