I'm going to a local machine shop and having one of these made.

Then everything I own will be NJS.

The NJS logo is not a designation of quality or craftsmanship, but rather a designation of compliance to an arbitrary set of standards required for keirin racing. It is meaningless unless you are a professional keirin racer.
you realize they Bet on Keirin Racing in Japan, don't you? the certification is
about equalizing the hardware and so the race is Between the riders.

Horse and Jockey in one.
from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keirin Professional cycling (競輪 keirin[SUP]?[/SUP]) began as a betting sport in Japan in 1948,
Nihon Jitensha Shinkōkai (NJS; also known in English as the Japanese Keirin Association) was founded to establish a uniform system of standards for the sport in Japan. Today keirin racing is regulated by the JKA Foundation.

I don't feel like making up a story. But when I think of most "bang for the buck", Campy doesn't come to mind. To each his/her own.

Yup. That's why I wrote what I wrote.

Nihon Jitensha Shinkōkai (NJS; also known in English as the Japanese Keirin Association) was founded to establish a uniform system of standards for the sport in Japan. Today keirin racing is regulated by the "JKA_Foundation".
And before NJS, keirin was regulated by "BIA" so you still sometimes find Japanese track components with a "BIA" stamp:

Should be the other way around. Omniums are a lot stiffer than Campy Record Pistas.

Indeed but then again they are not a pita with so many issues as the omniums. That's why record pistas are the best bet right now, not much more money than omniums and very high quality.

If you ask me, NJS is fairly silly. Go for what works best. Sometimes it will be something that's NJS stamped, but not because of it being NJS stamped.

I'm wondering what more you could ask of them, if your experiences are similar to mine.

Campy cranks aren't NJS, which is their major drawback.

I have Campy on one bike, DA on another and Sugino Grand Mighty on yet another. They are all damn fine cranks. My knockabout has Miche. I personally can't tell any of them apart in terms of perceived performance. Ride what you like.

I have been really happy with my miche crank. The only reason I want DA is for 167.5 which I don;t think Sugino or Campy offer (I believe they just go to 170. If I am wrong, link me!)

Hahaha. No.

NJS is basically the same as restrictor plate racing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restrictor_plate

The whole purpose of NJS is to make sure that no racer has any advantage due to equipment. Period. This is why they can't use clipless pedals or carbon fiber.

They can't even use wheels that aren't 36 spoke for pete's sake!

Used to have SRAM s300 crankset on GTB.

Now i have DA 7710.

Guess what... I'm not any closer to winning any races.
