Seriously under-appreciated thread. OP has quite an eye for carnage and for cheesecake. Some of the pics are just too much, like this one:
You can see the fluids knocked right out of his head, and practically hear and feel the impact. Some nut just ran out onto the track? Wow!
So many of these pics require some sort of explanation. They need to be made into a coffee table book of some kind.

I recall reading that this was a race official, not a random bozo. It is the last stage of the TdF when it still finished at the Parc du Princes velodrome. The official stepped one little bit too far out and got smacked by Andre Darrigade. Unfortunately, it was the last mistake the official made - he did not survive. Darrigade did, and there is a photo of him very soon thereafter, head swathed in bandages, back at the track to congratulate the yellow jersey winner (Louison Bobet, if memory serves).

1896 - Eddie "Cannon" Bald .. Professional cyclist seen here riding his Barnes "White Flyer". Raced from 1892 - 1903 then raced cars after retirement. Regarded as Buffalo's greatest ever cyclist.
Nicknamed "The Cannon" because he stayed in the pack until the final finish where he shot out of the pack and nobody could catch him. They say he shot out of the pack like a cannon ball..!!!

I especially liked the shot of Walter Godefroot, a true Flemish hard man, with his left leg looking like hamburger from yesterday's crash, routinely signing an autograph like it's just another day at the office . (The intact shorts say it wasn't from today's crash.)
Come to think of it, as tough as he was, it probably was just another day at the office.

Two of my all-time favorites. If I didn't post these earlier, I should have. If I did post them earlier, they are worth a repeat.
Coppi and Bartali. Note the different drivetrains. I believe this is from the 1949 TdF, but I'm only about 85% sure of that. If it isn't 1949, then it has to be 1952.
Anquetil and Poulidor, Puy du Dome, 1964 TdF.
