This morning I rode with Jon T from the forum. He belongs to a group that leaves from Ball Road / Norwalk Blvd and the "C" group heads down the SGRT to Seal Beach and then works its way around to the bike path that runs along the beach from Belmont Shore to Downtown LB. It was a nice day and a nice ride. I think about 28 miles round trip (my Garmin ran out of juice right after starting)

Well, take a guess! 17 mile climb to The Point of No Return as the locals call it. If you're out of water at this point, you have to descend to the village for water. If you manage to save a bottle for the return, you can head back here as most of the climbing to the village is done. Carried a 3rd bottle in my jersey today. Just doing a little climbing lately trying to regain some cycling strength. What better way to do it than climb?

Did my usual Encanto to Mt Baldy Lodge Sunday ride. GMR-GRR was open but I got up early enough to avoid the motorcycle mayhem on the way up. Came down GMR without seeing a motorcyclist flying off the cliff. This is a common sight for me on Hwy 39.

Anyway, improved my time by 5 minutes so I guess this climbing stuff is showing some minor improvement.

no more riding up or down the 5 fwy between ucsd and sorrento valley.
Rode up Torrey pines for the first time since bike lane improvements, and down new Torrey Pines to Sorrento bike path for first time ever, Not as steep downhill as I expected, but still fun. Last time I did that route I went uphill on the freeway ramp.

they did a really nice job on the sorrento valley < > ucsd bike path paralleling (word?) the 5 freeway. that bridge over genesee wasn't a cheap chicken.

8.5 mile climb today with 2,497 ft of gain. Half way up, didn't realize my tire had gone soft and I was really struggling. Cut the ride short then realized on the first fast switchback, my tire was soft. OK, that explains it, stupid thorns!

Old thorn out yesterday, new tube in last night, new thorn today!

Did a local ride out to Carbon Canyon and into Chino Hills. Stopped at Overlook Park to rest/eat with a view of Chino Hills State Park from the North.

Looped back through La Habra Hgts and Turnbull Canyon before the wind and heat started to get the best of me and headed home. Vivo Active watch only has about 5 hours of life so did not record the last 5 miles.

Ended up with 67 miles and 6,800 ft of climb.

31 miles in some crazy wind today. 55 mph gusts according to the forecast. It was moving the trees pretty good but I don't think it was that strong. Only enough to make it a good workout.

Saw a group of these e-bike people. They can't possibly been having fun. Like 15 of them rolled by (crossed paths twice) and they were all frowning, not one smile. Heck, I was laughing and giggling all day on the bike today, I like riding in the wind!

broke out the singlespeed after 6months of hiding it. Forgot the slow crawl pace up the hills of Del Dios canyon.

I have not been in the OC for several months so I headed out to start at Reagan Park in Anaheim Hills. The goal was to enjoy the day and get a little climbing in. The ride up Silverado was breezy and cool and perfect for a Fall day. I beat the rush, there was a large group of about ten roadies heading up on my descent.

After pondering where I should go next, I decided Live Oak Cyn would be fun after the short climb from Cook's Corner. I got lucky, the motorists were polite and gave me plenty of room. A lot of mtn bikers bombing down Live Oak. Stopped at O'Neill for a quick pic and drink.

Made my way back up the Modjeska Grade and enjoyed the largely downhill grades before the final climb up Serrano. Lake Irvine is open again. I did not stop at the snack shack.

Perfect Day in the OC Canyons.

Wife & I rode Santiago Cyn yesterday as well. Started from Ball Rd. & Main st. out Taft thru Orange, Tustin & Villa Pk, then down Cannon to Santiago. Up to Jamboree then to Santiago Cyn past Cooks then right on Glenn Ranch Road up & around to Portola, down Alton to Irvine Blvd to Sand Canyon back up to Portola, up Jamboree for smoothies at the Chevron station then back to the truck. Beautiful day. BTW 95% of cyclists going in the opposite direction mid-morning.

If memory serves checked my Garmin at the truck @ 42 miles with @ 2850' total elevation gain. Edited: 45.9 miles 2877' total elevation gain. Funny to me it seems further due to the variety of terrain. Nice rolling up & down route.

Started from Encanto Park again and headed to GMR on the 29er. I knew GRR was closed due to snow so I did not know what to expect on GMR other than the road was open. GMR turned out to be perfect no rocks or sand and dry all the way to the shed.

I enjoyed the ride so much with the vistas of the snow-capped mountains, I did a rerun.

I was able to try out some cheap winter bibs for the first time and thought they held up well. Plenty warm and the chamois fit well with no chafing.

a 28-miler in anza-borrego state park from scissors crossing to sweeney pass and back along san diego county hwy s2. desert floor already starting to sprout green shoots and saw the first desert sunflowers of the season. a little wind here and there and the pavé not the best (take 28’s) but the light was perfect and super low traffic today. passed the two campground stores at miles 4/24 and 13/16. had every intention of grabbing a klondike bar or drumstick but didn’t work up enuff of a sweat.

I've done the Borrego tour ride a few times and the metric from Borrego to Salton Sea and back. I know it is a desert setting but boy it sure can be pretty out there.
