I did some nice riding on this one in SE Ohio recently, hit 45mph, touched some light gravel, got in 4,000ft of climbing as well. It was really a joy to ride. Everything works perfectly.

Ultegra 6600 groupset: seat post, brakes, brifters, crank, etc. etc. It's all really clean Ultegra.
Wheelset has Ultegra 6700 hubs on Mavic Open Pro (these have less than 200 miles on them)
Ultegra headset

No pedals

Seat tube: 58cm C-C
Top tube: 57cm C-C

That's a beauty! My Davidson Impulse is easily one of my top 3 favorite bikes still. It's been an off year riding for me this year but the Davidson has been used more than any of the other bikes. It's just that good. Someone's going to get a great ride. Good luck with this one!

I'm not real familiar with Davidson so I looked on their website for a minute but couldn't answer my questions.

1)Do you know what the tubing used is?
2)Was it custom sized for a person or does Davidson generally build "standard" sizes?
3)What is the ready to ride weight as it sits in the pics?

I stashed this article on Bill Davidson awhile ago. Should give you some insight into his bikes. They are top notch!

Davidson used Columbus tubing. I don’t have the bike with me at the moment, but I can check to see if it’s SLX or SL. This bike has quite standard geometry, though I’m sure Davidson did custom work. If I remember correctly, the bike is right around 21lbs. I’ll try to get it on a scale.

Sweet ride is an understatement, these are fantastic by anybodies yardstick in any way you want to look at them.

His are some of the few that if you knew nothing about them but it fit you and was maybe an ok color, you would be getting out your wallet and driving or riding home with it after the test ride.

The Impulse I had (1992-ish) was Prestige, confirmed through Davidson.
I reluctantly let it go because I was narrowing down the herd and it only took 25mm tires. But it did ride as good as everyone says.

I know builders used various tubing. A person at Davidson told me it’s Columbus from viewing a few photos. To the extent that it matters to a buyer, I’d like to know definitively.

I worked there for 10 years, '84-'94, and that frame was probably made during that time. But the decals are a newer style, so it might be a repaint. Almost all frames built during that time were Prestige and I bet yours was too. Easy way to find out at least the steerer brand is take the fork out. Most likely the other tubes are the same brand as the steerer. Yes we did have some Columbus but it was probably under 10%

Thanks Mark. The bike is a repaint. It was sent back to Davidson maybe 15 years ago, hence the more modern decals.

Oh I should have mentioned, since this is not widely understood by bikies, that Prestige came in many gauges, so you can't really know how a bike will ride based on the Prestige name alone. Take the downtube for example, we had 6 gauges to choose from in 1-1/8" alone, not to mention oversized — and we used 'em all, based on frame size (for the stock models), and based on rider weight/strength/riding style/preference in the case of custom frames. One thing you know you're getting with Prestige is heat-treated Cr-Mo, fairly strong (tho there are stronger steels now), and very good precision and quality control.

I was the custom guy, made almost all the custom frames including track, timetrial and tandems during my time there. Fun was had.
