1980 MOTOBECANE MOBY MOPED Excellent Cond. French Estate Find - $449

(Morristown, NJ)

This is a 1980 Motobecane moped recently purchased out of a local estate. It has been garage kept for many many years.
I know very little about mopeds, so please ask questions if you are interested. When I purchased this moped, it had been sitting in the garage for years with gas still in the tank. I emptied the gas before the initial transport, and refilled it with the proper mixture once I was home. I was able to start it up and ride it around. The problems: It did not seem to want to idol unless you had the brakes on. It also ran pretty rough, another indication that the carburetor needs to be cleaned. A couple days after I had it running initially, I could no longer get it started. I think this may have something to do with the spark plug, which probably needs to be replaced, or perhaps I am just doing something wrong. The Cat Eye battery pack probably needs to be replaced, as the wires are not connected and it did not seem to work when I had the motor running. The main brake light did work, as well as the headlight. This cateye device just controls the blinkers, which are aftermarket.
1673 miles, single owner.
No title. I have the name of the original owner and the Vin #.
Tires in great shape.
Really nice shape cosmetically.
Please take a look at my other items by typing in keyword leedowdy or follow this link:

Hope that's a joke - an RB-1 will go for a significant amount. Not only is it a pretty good bike, Bridgestone's also got a huge following which amps up the price somewhat. Heck, if you could show me anyone that was selling an RB-1 like that condition for $25, I'd skip work, sleep, and meals and drive up to 4 hours to go get it.

I suspect that's the case here, but dang if I can figure out which model Miyata it is. The 'fade' did not last long. There was a 'Team' model ATB for a year or more, but this is not that bike. This one has the 'wrong' seat tube color to be a Team in any case.

I reckon it's true that sarcasm doesn't work online....My original answer was going to be to suggest saving up his money until he could afford to buy a more substantial RB-3.

OK, so here's a serious answer... I just purchased a Bridgestone MB-1 (just frame, fork and wheelset) for $200 last week. And was happy to get it.

I assumed that even casual readers of this forum would be aware of the Bridgestone legacy, but perhaps not.

RB1's were at the high end of Bridgestone's line, and are extremely sought after in good condition.

An RB1 in spectacular condition could be fairly priced anywhere from $400 to $450, I'd guess. I wouldn't be surprised for them to be listed by sharks for much more than that, and by people who have no idea of their value for much less.
