regarding drones - at the Kermis in August I was hanging out with Junior watching some drone operators. They had two or three little ones, two guys, serious, not joking around.

When they landed one of the drones we went over to watch. One guy commented that they could fly Junior around. "No way, he's like 25 pounds!" "Yeah, check this out."

They uncovered part of the bed of one of the pick up trucks and there was this big drone thing with maybe 6 or 8 rotors. 70 pound payload.

For a moment I thought, "well, if they stay within 5 feet of the ground I could spot for him." Then I came to my senses.

Last clip for a bit. The last Bethel race. It felt a bit surreal, to be honest, and I wish I'd been in better form for the last Series there.

Knight Ferry P12.
We had four kids there. All flatted - all run different tires. For my son Daniel, this makes 3 flats in 3 2015 RRs all where he has managed to get away from the main group each time before flatting. This time he flatted on a 40g heavier tire I got from a real pro tour team. I offered car for neutral wheel support but was told there would be no wheel support for this race.

But onto the video (read reports in the race results thread - I have nothing to add) - I am bit frustrated by the tire issues:

It was. Actually an issue with cameras that only cost low thousands of $$ is with today's technology they shoot interlaced video - or they guess frame by frame (I know how they work - I just can't explain it better in 5 words). They in fact will miss many rain drops and even pedal strokes - or slow them down. Not the best for high speed things. I know how to solve it, just not without more $$.
I just was not up for the $5+K (on top of cycling costs) to do it right. I came from the soccer dad world where I hade to hid my small one when around those $20K setups some guys had. In the cycling world I only have to compete against GoPros (which do shoot a very high frame rate).

your kid was strong. at 2:30 in the video I knew he was chasing which is why I was on the front through that feed zone climb. Gotta make it hard. Bad luck with the flats. That Adam kid was great.

Stepped on it. It was clean and fresh. This was northbound - the feed was southbound. Same spot.
There were several races. Could have been from the women's field of 1.
Didn't pick it up for finger prints or analysis.

Probably left by some farmer, making his cows beefier -- couldn't have been from a rider .

Though not sure which is worse -- doped riders or doped meat.

It was from the pack. Before being stepped on it was clean. Again, as posted in another thread, could be legit. Nothing obviously wrong here. Even the litter was in the feed zone.

Are you suggesting somebody is injecting stuff with a syringe during a race? In the pack? That would be... remarkable.

Watch the spring classics, same deal. You don't get the feel of how hard it is raining until they show the spray.

Yes. And not illegal - unless the "stuff" was. The fact it was in the feed zone so not littering - or covert makes me think it was legit. It was still - as you say - remarkable.
It clearly had been discarded after the start of the race.

I'm just trying to imagine how you (1) shoot up while cycling (2) in the pack (3) without anybody noticing (4) in the rain (5) without getting some sort of fatal sepsis.

Pros seem to have done it with some regularity. Maybe some still do, dunno.

Kimmage talked about it in his book I think. One of those pros-are-depressing books, can't remember which one.

I got a camera for commuting safety and took it today on the group ride. I beat a girl and a pudgy guy in a sprint.

You're welcome.

I did not see any Cat 1s and any pros listed in the results.

My opinion is it was a legit legal use (60% sure). And by a registered rider (95% sure).
I don't doubt athletes cheat, but in this case to discard a fresh syringe there in the fee zone with 5-10 folks 10m away is awfully bold. It also indicated that person was trying not to litter. Those are just my assumptions.
This was also 300m after cresting the hill for where the finish and the referees would be and the thing would be used - when going slower and climbing.
Seems like the worst place one could think of to cheat with 27 other miles mostly unmonitored.

Why is it when guys always put the power on to pass you shortly after they turn right?

open road, getting out of the way in case someone else wants to go by me, giving them room to the left?

No pros in the field; but everyone not listed as "Cat 2" is cat 1 (like me).

Not sure why they only listed the 2s' categories.

Also how do you know the syringe was even from the race? Couldn't it have been from earlier in the day?

I really doubt anyone was shooting up in that race.
