Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Got the shipping tracking link for a tent I've been tempted by for a while. I don't need to check the tracking for probably a month. It's coming half way around the world on the cheaper shipping. I will have to resist the urge to check every day.

This is how people like to imagine bike riding in the winter - dry road, plowed bike lane - but probably not what you get, mostly.

Every day? HA! I've been known to check more often than every HOUR!

They do a good job of keeping the roads clear around here. We average around 10 feet of snow a year, so they get lots of practice.

The less snow local governments have to deal with, the worse they deal with it. Then again, nobody's going to invest big bucks in equipment that gathers dust for years till its needed.

It's like a Romero film in the 41 - I don't think that I've ever seen so many zombies. Weird.

I worked at a county run garage at a huge jail complex north of here. The amount of waste and corruption at government facilities is staggering and LA County seems to be pretty bad.

It's a 2600 acre facility with a few miles of roads within. Before I went to work there a man was married to the daughter of the sheriff who the facility is named after (Peter Pitchess) and he had a massive property in central California where he wanted to build roads. He convinced his wife and father in law to buy $15 million worth of road building equipment under the guise of building roads at the jail, then he took all the equipment up to his property and built roads.
They then sold the equipment for pennies on the dollar. While i worked there they sold trucks for $500, etc.

This was just one part of it.

Day one of balance bike was not a success. After showing much intial excitement she lost interest fast. I even got the neighbors daughter to swing by and show her how it’s done. This only angered her more. Hopefully next week will go smoother.

You planted a seed - that's a good start. Now you just have to start walking everywhere and stop bringing a stroller.
