Upcoming first Winter

I started light XC trails this past Spring, and have a tire question for the change in weather.

The bike is a rigid 26er, formerly my commuter, for which I own a set of Innova Happakilita studded tires. It seems to me that they would be suitable for ice crusted trail riding as the tread pattern is fairly heavy, and I thought the studs might be useful on frosty tree roots, bridges and boards, etc.

Is this a normal or accepted practice? Any drawbacks that I can't see from my house? They are .25" more narrow than the 2.0's I ran this Summer as they were intended for snow and ice on pavement, but might be OK except in sloppy mud which I don't want to be in anyway.

I would say to just try the tires and see how they work for where you want to ride. Winter conditions are so variable that I think you just have to try and see what your tires can handle. Are you expecting more than a couple inches of snow on the ground?

What he said^^^

After your first ride you will know better than anyone if they will work for you.
