Larger Tires?
What are the largest tires that will fit a Ukai 27 1/8” rim on my Fuji touring? Currently running 1 1/4” and wondered if anyone had gone wider? Thanks.

I believe I had one with 1 3/8 tires. Tires came with the bike so can't point to a source.
Perhaps you can measure the width of the rim and post that?

They don't really make much in the way of tires much bigger than 27 x 1 and 1/4. My michelin protek 27 inch tires measure broader than that. Swift tires are the only source I know of, SWIFTTIRE ? Most Supple Folding Hi-Res Tires

Kenda still makes one or two different 27" x 1 3/8" tires, but they are heavy and not especially supple. Cheap though. Google to find them. kenda 27" 1 3/8

Those heavy fat tires ride awful. They're only good for short distance commuters. The high air volume means less pressure, which means less leakage, which means less topping off. Thick heavy sidewalls give some cut resistance over skinwalls. There's a purpose for these tires, but a nice ride isn't it.

Another thumbs-up for the Swift Tire Sand Canyons! I have them on my Miyata 1000 and they’re terrific!

I have some cheapo Vietnamese tires that I picked up over here in Cambodia that run a wide 38mm
check out this thread about 27x1 3/8 tires.
I have a few of these cheapo tires at my house in Lancaster, PA if you really need some.
I think I shipped 3 of them in a med priority box plus I need about $5 a tire.

RRJohn. That is not a noob question. It's a good question and one that a lot of 27" wheel owners have. I think the Swifts are the way to go. I believe the Sand Canyons are made by Panaracer for Swift.

Next time I am back in the States (2020) I am probably going to rebuild it to this-

The main question is the inner width of the rim. Sheldonbrown.com includes an admittedly overly cautious table of acceptable tire width vs. interior rim width. I would start with that, although I sometimes allow myself one tire width step (3-4mm) wider what is shown in the table. https://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html#width
