Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So what do you mtb types use for a gram mounted pump? Or is it all CO2 these days?

Lap key was only for the start so that I could get to where I needed to go to do this workout. Everything else was lined up perfectly no Lap key required. My legs were def hurting from the 3x15 yesterday. Cardio wise I felt fine.

the 2x10 the first set, probably the first 3 I did seated. Which felt stupid. I wasn’t sure if they were supposed to be seated or not. I sprinted the rest of them. That was crazy, I couldn’t muster more than 700 by that time.

I take Topeak Road Morph with me. It comes with a bottle cage mount, but I just throw it in my hydration pack most of the time. I should note it's not one of those under-the-bottle-cage mounts either, you need to give up a bottle spot to mount it to your bike.

Never tried the Mountain Morph, but maybe I should when I'm out with the 3.0" and bigger tyres, they take a LOT of strokes on the Road Morph.

I have a couple bontrager mini pumps, damn things always take the core out when I am done inflating, so I have gone back to using CO2

Yep. 50 seconds seems like a long rest until it isn't. Standing, seated, it doesn't matter on the 40/20, but standing works for the ten seconds. The burst every 3 minutes is a nice little workout, simply because it works you, but the three minutes goes so quickly, the workout seems less time than it is.

40/20s I’ve always done seated

The 3 mins with burst I was struggling to maintain tempo at the end, and def struggling to hit 330. Route was pretty hilly which made it interesting.

Riding the checkpoint for funsies tomorrow, last ride before work and no power meter. Just gunna cruise and have fun. Legs can’t do much anyways.

Also, becuase I was more concerned that I wouldn’t be able to compete this due to my legs packing up and moving out on me, I didn’t have any power goals for any of the three workouts. 40/20s I kept it in the green 300-375 or something my mind is mush. 2x10s just made sure to be above 500 that’s about all I could muster. The 3 min burst I did my damn eat to keep it as high as possible. Usually over shot 330 by a bit.

Next time or next week I’ll come up with actual numbers to aim for that I think I can hit.

Yep. If it's hard to hit the burst, and also hit the tempo, it was done right. That's why it's at the end. This **** is mental, and it's physical. The mental part at the beginning, because the workout seems so.... Long. The physical takes over after a bit. I nice bike ride will do you good.

I have a Zefal mini "Double Shot". I carry it in the Camelbak but I think they come with a bottle cage bracket. You don't need the pressure you do on road tires. I run 15 psi front and 20 rear but the tires have a lot of volume. So a higher volume pump is faster than a high pressure pump, but about anything will work.

I rarely got flats on my mountain bikes until I moved here and found crops of monster goat heads.

I just do CO2. Getting flats is pretty infrequent with a good tubeless setup. Make sure to carry the bacon strips to seal holes that are too large for the sealant. In all my years riding MTB tubeless (lets say 12 or 13), I've had to repair a flat with an inner tube once.
