Sounds like you're doing alright with your power and endurance if you're still tossing off centuries.

Bear in mind that cold air is more dense than warm air, so it really does take more effort to push your bicycle through that denser air. (At least that's what I've read on several winter cycling sites.)

Hiking and cycling this weekend. All the walking I do during the week helps.

Took the dog out for a very short walk, then biked to work. Beautiful, partly sunny late fall day, and most of the dead leaves have been swept off the street - so we are in the final window of fair weather/dry pavement riding that often opens up briefly at this time of year.

That's what "they" say.

Over the summer I slowly worked my way up to 138 m. Down to about 50 degrees the only thing I noticed was
slightly different clothing. Coming home at 31 f I noticed I was using much lower gears on the same hill, breathing harder and working harder on the same exact hills as before. I'm not going to push myself too hard when it's cold.
Slowly, I'll go up maybe only two miles at a time over the winter. The typical "thinking" is increasing by 10%
at one time is comfortable. Don't care. I can't even feel 2 extra miles from one ride to the next. I'm NOT fixing a flat in the dark, in freezing temps, while exhausted!!

If I do I'll admit it.

Are you trying to beat last year? I've decided to do that every year. They will have to pry my cold dead fingers
from the handlebars.

Match or beat last year.

I was about 50 km behind last year at the beginning of November because I was taken out of the game in September with a mystery illness, but I put my foot down (so to speak) throughout November and caught up!

A very nice shady area near me to pedal is in Mandarin neighborhood. I biked on my hybrid here:

to Walter Jones Park:

Some of the back roads in Mandarin are perfect for leisure biking. This particular road is thin, as if designed for bikes!. You pass a softball park, historic homes, art festival, cemetery..:

Christmas Eve - 6.4 km walk ... various walks on our travels and to get dinner.

Christmas Day - 44.6 km bicycle ride.

Christmas Day has been a beautiful 26C day with blue skies and lots of sunshine and hardly any wind. Just perfect! We cycled out to a beach with big waves (I love watching the big waves) and then cruised around the area.

Then we strolled down to the swimming beach next to our caravan park, and did a bit of wading in the warmish water.

Plus a 2 km walk after Christmas dinner.

No cyclng for a couple of weeks due to unusually persistent December snow, but I am walking the dog 1-2 km every day and was walking to and from the bus or subway to get to work up til Friday, adding up to about another 1-1.5 km.

Working all the time this week, hardly got any walking done. But next week offers a lot of free time. And a co-worker gave me a beautiful pair of hiking boots for Christmas so the snow and ice won't stop me this winter!

Crazy weather we've been having lately, well below 0 temps for the first half of December and last couple days back in the 40s. Went out for a leisurely 5 mile ride on Christmas Day, very little traffic made for a great ride.

Getting in between 7 and 10 kms. a day just walking the dog, running errands and walking around the town center, which is off limits to most motor-driven vehicles this time of year. Exceptions: taxis, buses and delivery vehicles at certain times of day.

Edited to add: Just back from a 5-Km stroll. The streets are packed with thousands upon thousands enjoying the car-free streets. Extra buses have been put on to bring people in from the outlying neighborhoods, and police are on duty to make sure no motorists drive into the center. How nice to be able to enjoy a beautiful city without the danger, foul air and obnoxious noise that cars bring with them!

I'm in Canada without a bike. I walked to a grocery store and wore a shower cap for the rain.

Are the shoppers at all alarmed after the terror attack at the German Christmas Market? Are the extra police on hand as security against terror attacks?

No, I didn't detect any alarm about terrorism, and the police I saw were mainly there to keep cars away, although I'm sure there were undercover operations under way. I have seen police with automatic weapons at the railway station.

As of yesterday ... 1122 km of walking.

Last year I walked 1131 km, so I've got 4 days to walk another 9 km.

Walked the couple blocks to the corner Walgreens with my kids about 45 min. ago; getting ready for a 3-mi. RT to the grocery store for an item or two.

The ride home from work last night was more impressive, even if only 2 miles. I'd switched out the studded tires for the regular winter tires, and hit the air pressure more precisely than I thought I would. I had more fun pedaling home, even with 30# of 'cargo' on the bike, than I've had all month.

MAYBE...just maybe...the joy is seeping back into the ride.

The day I chose to WALK not ride my big dummy.

My wife fell in love with my BIKE! I can't blame her. I fell in love with it too. It's the reason I bought it. I's a bike that advertises real FREEDOM should you want to just "disappear" over the next hill. I even bought myself a secondhand Swedish Trangia Military Stove to add to my escape and evasion plan. Then something unexpected happened. My wife said, I want one! Big Dummy Bikes come in three sizes and this is according to Bikemonger in Swanage at the base of England. I ride the medium size and that's way too big for her, she who must be obeyed! Now all this depends on what tape measure I actually use. If I use the yellow tape measure, Vanessa is not quite 5'. If I use my old white tape measure, Vanessa is just a hair's thickness over 5'. That's the tape Vanessa asked me to use when she was considering her replacement bike. It made no difference the smallest big dummy would be a serious problem for her if she tried to ride it. Fear not I thought, Bike Forum is just a click or two away. And within minutes, I was being directed to that fantastic company Green something or other, who should really call themselves, "Bike Friday". I thought my problem had come to an end. There it was, bike Friday's Haul-a-day. We ordered and paid for and sat back. It even arrived on the 22nd December 2016. Outstanding!! Bike for Christmas, means a happy wife. It didn't quite go that way. Wife very happy but "Customs and Excise" men not! They wanted a further £539.99p for bringing in the bike into the country from a country not in the E.U. I'm still in shock, but the chest pains have eased up slightly. Over Christmas I spent time cleaning and oiling my Big Dummy ready for riding again in the new year. But I promise, that little lady of mine will not go anywhere near my Trangia....Thats mine...

Dropped off the house payment at the closed bank branch, bought the dog some more food. All in all, out just over an hour.

After that, I had to quick-check the rear axle -- just a hair loose.

Since Christmas, I've been getting off the bus a stop early so I can walk. That brings my commute walk to 1.4 km each day.
